The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
I'm the proud owner of a PS3, and have gone straigt into VC and Little Big Planet. Flow looked interesting and I'm noticing a disturbing trend of problems with not having purchased content for online levels.
I already have the best of the best on Xbox Live, so I have BC Rearmed covered.
Which LBP packs are important for playing online, and what are some other good things to purchase in the online store?
The only LBP pack that affects gameplay at all is the MGS pack, and it is definitely worth it. It's a pack of five levels, a few new songs, a bunch of materials, a bunch of stickers/decorations, a Gurlokovitch Soldier costume, and most importantly of all, the Paintinator, which lets you add shooter elements to your levels.
When I was still enjoying LittleBigPlanet, I found the MGS level pack very enjoyable.
Aside from that, get:
Flower
Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix
Burnout Paradise (if you don't mind blowing $20 on a game with enough content to cover six times that price)
Pixeljunk Eden
Also worth dabbling into are some PS One Classics. Whether you missed them the first time around or not, they've got some really good stuff on there despite the narrow selection. I recommend:
- Suikoden
- Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
- Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back
- Crash Bandicoot: Warped
- Spyro the Dragon
- Wild Arms
- Syphon Filter
Siren: Blood Curse. Get it if you have any love for survival horror games at all.
Truth. I could tell you that Siren is the best reviewerd true survival horror game of this generation, or you could just check out Metacritic and see for yourself. I could also tell you that it brilliantly blends the horror genre with stealth gameplay (tense + tense = tensest), and is one of the smartest games I've played in years.
If that doesn't float your boat, let me add that it's only forty bucks.

Somebody please sum up Flower in a couple sentences for me.
"Each level takes place in a different flower's dream as it sits on the windowsill of a dull city apartment. As the player progresses through the game, the apartment and city gradually becomes more vibrant and colourful. The player guides a petal through brightly coloured, abstract fields by tilting the motion-sensitive controller, pressing any button on the controller gives a speed boost. The aim is to guide the petal into other flowers in the field, triggering an explosion of colour that spreads through the game world."

You know those cutscenes in Okami where you revive the giant tree and color explodes into the area? It's like someone made a whole game based on that idea.
If you want something that is old-school, challenging, and pretty, you should check out the demo of Super Stardust HD. It doesn't exactly break any new ground, but it's a classy and refined piece of arcade excellence.
If you're at ALL interested in Tower Defense games, please get PixelJunk Monsters. The game is incredible. Honestly it's the best digital purchase I've ever made. TONs of levels, and local co-op. You can't beat it.
I will second or third or whatever number we're up to for Flower, just beat that and it's phenomenal. Just a myriad of emotions evoked by such a simple concept, the final level brought tears to my eyes when I realised what was happening.
Also echochrome, if you don't mind smashing your controller against your face for some of the harder levels. It's a good kind of frustration though.
And lastly, I may be in the minority here but I really enjoyed Pain. Not for everyone, but if you like any kind of score attack gameplay, it's one you'll spend hours on.
It has three leaves for each level. I don't really know what they represent. It may be percentage of flowers opened. For the first level, I have three; the second, one. No idea why.

Does Flower have any challenges to beat, any objectives? Is it possible to beat or fail a level?
Flower is essentially a collection game, like Katamari Damacy, only with no time limit. You have to find all the flowers in a level. It is actually really easy, but still very fun for some reason.

In each level you have to collect a certain amount of flower petals to unlock the next part of the level, and eventually to unlock the goal. There's also three hidden flowers in every level for you to try and find. Besides that, there are just some neat out-of-the way secret things to play around with, for which you usually get Trophies for discovering.

Not really. And believe me if there's anyone that has a personality that needs goals and a progress bar it's me. But Flower was still gaming bliss. Very joyous to play.

Other than that, get Flower.

As for LBP, none of the costume packs are worth it. Get the MGS level pack if you want.

Because of this post I am now in the middle of adding up all the money I've spent on PSN purchases.
I fear the final total.

Hold me.
J...jesus.
I think I've maybe spent $250 on the VC though, so I'm to blame as well.

Ratchet & Clank: Quest For Booty is fun, but its best to play R&C Future first.
Earth.
Wind.
Fire!
Water.
HEART!
GO PLANET!!
From what I've read that's awfully difficult to do.
