This movie is a shallow interpretation of Watchmen, shorn of sophistication or literary density. Worst of all, watching the film makes you wonder whether the source material was actually any good to begin with.

    Oh SNAP y0.

    But WAIT!

    http://movies.ign.com/articles/956/956111p1.html
It's the Watchmen movie you always wanted to see but never expected to get. Snyder's Watchmen is a celebration of how films can add worthwhile dimensions to a beloved story – at all times reverent to the original, but careful to remind us that costumes and masks are never as colourful as the people underneath.

I recently read Watchmen a few days ago and i gotta say (I may be going a bit over the top by saying this) damn, Alan Moore is a fucking genious.

I'm a bit worried by the movie interpretation though, so far I've read two reviews in all the newspapers i've read today, one gave it 2 star and the other 4 star.

The former saying the acting was god awful, worst sex scene ever and was too long. wasn't the worst superhero movie ever but disappointing,

I do find it hard to believe though that given how good the graphic novel was and the movie being faithful to its source material, surely its not that easy to fuck it up?

Okay, as many of the people in this thread are now aware, I saw the movie early. Not only that, but it was a free admission to boot
When I walked out of the theatre, here were the first things I've heard from the first three groups of people I saw

Group of two guys: "The audio was shit (it was, but that wasn't the movie's fault). (Sarcastically contuining:) Oh BOO HOO HOO they had to kill one of their superhero friends? Who gives a shit that movie sucked."

Family: "That was a terrible superhero movie! Where were the superpowers? That movie sucked it should've been more like X-Men. I can't believe we wasted three hours on that..." "X-Men was a great movie wasn't it Dad?" "It sure was, and it didn't have any lame characters."

Mother with several children: "What sort of movie was that? I thought it was supposed to be about superheroes! I can't believe it had all of those naughty bits in it. All of that sinful behaviour (she actually said that, this is Oklahomians)...I can't believe they'd market that to children! I have half a mind to sue!"

I wanted to jump to those people, yelling "YOU IGNORANT FUCKS THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST ANTICIPATED MOVIES OF THE YEAR! YOU GOT TO NOT ONLY SEE IT EARLY, BUT FOR FREE! AND YOU, LADY, THE GODDAMN MOVIE IS RATED FUCKING R, WHAT THE FUCK SORT OF MOVIE DO YOU THINK IT IS! CAN YOU EVEN READ?! GODDAMN YOU'RE FUCKING RETARDED!
I KNOW AT LEAST FORTY PEOPLE WHO WOULD GLADLY PAY TOP DOLLAR TO SEE IT A WEEK EARLY AND YOU FUCKS ARE BITCHING ABOUT IT?! GODDAMN I HATE YOU ALL!" After, I'd chokeslam the lot of them and throw them through the plate glass doors. No jury would convict me.

...Instead, I walked to my car and went back to my room.
Oh, but they'll regret their actions.
    For one day, one day...
The accumulated filth of all their ignorance and greed will foam up about their waists and all the fatties and mouthbreathers will look up and shout "Save us!"
And I'll look down, and whisper
    "No."

Okay, I'm now going to try and list everything that's left out of the Watchmen movie
So, if anyone asks "Is <x> in", they can check this post
    (SPOILERS AHOY)
First Rorsarch scene wherein he fruitlessly interrogates the dude in the bar (breaking his fingers in the process)
I'm going to spoiler this one, because it's about Rorschach notifying Ozymandias of the Comedian's death
In the movie, Rorschach does not notify Adrian of the Comedian's death. Instead, Dan does. Is it clear that Dan and Adrian know each other's real identities? I felt the change was more interesting, being that Dan is a clearly more reasonable guy. Also, prety much all of Adrian's dialogue is changed as a result, instead of being at least somewhat sympathetic to Rorschach's idea of a Mask-Killer, instead he completely disregard's the idea, terming it the idea of a lunatic.
Pretty much all the supplementary materials are gone, they kept they fact that Hollis Mason wrote the tell-all, but don't really reference any of the information contained within besides, obviously, the rape attempt
They kept the part in one of the supplements where Milton Glass goes "I actually said 'God is real, and he is American.' And if that doesn't completely frighten you, don't worry; that only means you're still sane.' which I thought was awesome
Captain Metropolis, as far as I can tell, is completely removed
Tales of the Black Freighter was removed, as many are aware, Newsman and Black Comic-Book Reading Kid's roles were marginilized (hug shot still present, however, luckily)
Dr. Manhattan now just leaves Earth straight from the interview, instead of making everyone else leave from the set
Dr. Manhattan's childhood flashback to watchmaking cut significantly
Dr. Manhattan's meeting with Hollis Mason cut
Dr. Mahattan- Veidt flashback meeting cut, Dr. Manhattan magicafying the riot away cut
The scene where the detectives find the father's double murder-suicide...cut
    Rorschach's landlord has been removed
This is a plot change, so I'm going to spoiler it
    (PLOT CHANGE ABOUT OZY'S MOTIVATIONS)
To make the movie more relevant to modern times, in addition to the nuclear holocaust that the world is facing, the superpowers are also facing a rapid energy crunch. To that end, Veidt is trying to pursue a source of free, limitless energy which he will supply to the people- or at least that is his front for getting Dr. M's involvement on a "destroy stuff" generator.
There's a whole additional scene were Veidt meets the heads of all of the major sources of energy and they attempt to threaten him to abandon his plans for a free, limitless source of energy, saying things like "Free? Sounds like socialism..." and "I'm sure Congress would be mighty interested in your plans, especially considering how left you are politically..." and Veidt is a fucking badass and basically tells them all to fuck off, adding "I'm worth more than all the rest of you put together. I could buy and sell you all three times. Remember that before talking to the media." It's fucking awesome. This also changes the assassination attempt. Instead of shooting Veidt's secretary, the murderer shoots one of the energy tycoons.
Joey has been removed, and so has her girlfriend
Rorschach's recounting of how he made his mask is gone
All of the psychiatrist's case files on Roschach are gone
Change to Dog scene, so I'll spoiler
    About Rorschach killing the dude
Instead of burning him alive, Rorschach splits his head open with a meat cleaver. So much more intense and disturbing that way.
Psychiatrist's wife, and all related scenes to her, are removed
Max Shea has been removed, but if you read any of the spoiler in the OP you know why
Ozymandias show they show during the Dan-Laurie sex scene gone
Hollis Mason's murder was removed, although I think it was recorded so I imagine once the extended director's cut comes out (it's announced for July, and is supposed to be 3h 10 minutes long (compared to the current movie's 2h 37 min long)) it will be included
Detective's meeting/questioning with Dan is gone
    (MINOR BIG BOSS SPOILER)
    About Larry's death scene
Instead of an arc welder Big Boss gets a saw, therefore Larry's killed by his arms being chopped off, not bya slit throat
    Laurie's Flashback Snowglobe scene removed
Laurie's Flashback scene with Laurie's Mom, Hollis Mason, and the old Minutemen guys gone
Laurie's Flashback scene at Comedian's honorary dinner removed
Any references to Hollis Mason dying in the Rorschach questioning scene removed... you know, where Nite Owl goes crazy and starts choking people out? Gone
First scene at the New Frontiersman where the fat dude reads out of Rorschach's journal before his editor makes him put it on the crank file? Gone
    Incidentally (ENDING SPOILER)
    about the New Frontiersman
it's implied at the end that the NF is this little shithole far-right wing rag, being that's it on the ground floor of a shitty apartment building of a shitty part of NY. Food for thought
Adrian Veidt's place has no atrium, no amazing place full of exotic life
Final conversation between Dr. M and Veidt is removed
    (VERY VERY END SPOILER)
about Laurie confessing to her Mom she knows about her father being Blake
Neither Laurie nor Dan go into hiding, both of them decide to return to crimefighting (it's at least implied), and neither dye their hair a different color
And that's it. I think I got everything that's been removed from the novel
I might have missed a couple, though

Thanks for the title change duders

    8-)

Incidentally, besides what my previous post might indicate, I really, really love this movie. Snyder just got it as a director and tried to stay as faithful to the material as possible.
So he cut a little here and there. So he made some changes. The important thing was was that he loves this comic just as much as we do and his love for the source material is evident in every frame on screen
So really, if you're a Watchmen fan, there is no excuse. Watch this movie. It is great. Hell, in two parts it's, imo, better than the movie. No, three.
Is it as good as the book? No. Is it as influential? No. Is it the best comic book movie I've ever seen? Possibly. Does it stand as its own piece of storytelling, even removed from the comic? Definitely.
So go watch it. Go watch it right now.
