Gamestop makes such a killing on those used games. But I'm still getting a deal on buying (as opposed to buying something brand new), so I ain't complaining.

Funny comic and I once did see a guy come into a Game Stop with like 20 sealed Halo 3s and a bunch of MGS4s in a duffle bag and took the trade in for that...
what I find amusing is when dudes are all, "man y does GS only give me $10 for my game and then resell it for $40 wut a ripoff"
yes, it's such a ripoff that they want to make a profit on the transaction
don't like it? don't trade in

edit: also, this comic just reminds me of EBGame's foray into taking CD and cellphone trade-ins. Neither of those lasted long, though.
Anyway, my county has applied an 18 day mandatory hold law on Gamestop, which is INCREDIBLY stupid. I can see it being of use on the systems, since those can be tracked by serial number, but the individual games, come on! All this does is frustrate customers (the backroom of my store is a closet, so the 18 day hold discs go back there, but there isn't room for the cases, so they go on the shelves) and hurt business, because the store can't actually sell the stock that it has.

They make a killing on what they actually sell. There's plenty of used games they buy back that sit in their little cabinets forever or until they are discounted further.

if they stacked all the copies of madden they get back year after year on top of each other and never get sold again, the tower would probably reach the moon

I heard all GameStop stores keep an incinerator and they can run on Madden-fired power for up to 8 months out of the year.
Even though what they sell used games for is a joke, they're pretty generous buying them as long as they aren't 2 years old or something. $15 for a used game is a good deal, since they're ripping people off so bad that means I get more out of it. Pretty much the redeeming factor that kept me as a customer. Otherwise there'd be no reason to go to a place that never has a sale and has a car dealership atmosphere.
I don't really understand this comic. Does GameStop actually sell firearms now or is this just another typical PA injoke (insert RoboJoco reference)? It's like they are setting you up for a delivery that just never comes. If this comic was a game of monopoly, it would stop just short of Pennsylvania Avenue.

I'm glad I did now.
You deserve it.

Yeah, like that isn't suspicious.
It's actually that Amazon and Toys R us are starting to dabble in the used games market, which used to be Gamestop's deal so yeah.
Well, considering that Amazon actually offers some damn decent prices on trade ins and GS does not.
$5 for Halo 3? Yeah... I think I will keep it.
No I don't want to open up an edge card.
No I don't want to preorder a game.
No I don't want to buy a magazine subscription...
Where's the real life version of Firefox?
"Firefox has blocked this person from opening an unwarranted line of conversation."
You can substitute an air horn for that...
"Would you like to pre-" BRRRRRRT!!!
We tried to find some at like 10 PM one night, went all over town looking for them, but we had no idea where to look.
You have a farting air horn?
I want a farting air horn.
How does one get a farting air horn?
I was born with mine.
first he ditches the murder weapon
then he picks up a new one
Though I don't know of many marine supply stores that are open at 10pm. At least...legit marine supply stores.
Sporting Goods stores
Or my favorite the Army and Navy store.

Yeah, there are a lot of reasons to not want to go to GS, but the fact that they're, you know, a business is definitely not one of them.
Then I noticed all the flecks of blood in panel 3.
Now I can't stop giggling at it.

1:1 trades are pretty sweet.
