We recently found out that there shall be no PAX for us this year. Something about being 7+ months pregnant and the doc not wanting me to fly cross-country. Meh. So, PAX-ians, how can I suffer through this and not have this be the worst Labor Day Weekend ever? Should I try to stay up to date via Twitter and friends, or avoid it altogether for fear of sadness and shame. What do you think?

You could to a train ride. Its not to rough or difficult. It would just be long.
There are many ways to enjoy PAX remotely. Yes you won't get to actually be there I grant you but for many, especially those that live outside the US there is no alternative.
I suggest you hover around the following gaming related websites to get your PAX goodness without leaving the comfort of your own home:
All Games Radio
All Games Radio is an internet radio station that broadcasts podcasts and video game music 24/7. I must admit that this is a bit of blatant self plug here as I host 2 of the podcasts on their roster, so forgive me for this! Nevertheless every year All Games Radio does broadcast live from PAX. We had over 8 hours of broadcast time during last years PAX and we plan to do something similar this year. You can therefore get a taste of PAX by tuning into the station. For more details go to: http://www.allgames.com
Game Trailers
Game trailers had quite a presence at last years PAX and I fear this year will be no different. I suggest you hover around that site to see what they put up video wise there.
Platform Nation
A podcast collective that also has a strong presence at PAX. They, like All Games Radio broadcast live from the show floor. For more details head to Platform Nation
Eat-Sleep-Game
Springing from the ashes of 1UpFM comes Eat-Sleep-Game, the people behind the stupidly successful Rebel FM podcast. I have heard a very strong rumour that they will be at this years PAX so you'd do well to see what they put up during this year's gaming fest. Go to eat-sleep-game.com to find out more.
Gamercast Network
Yes yet another podcast collective. Their flagship show is I believe the Sarcastic Gamer series of podcasts but I may be wrong on that. They will have a strong presence at this years show no doubt, similar to last years, so go take a look here for more info.
Twitter
I suspect within 2-3 days of PAX the Twitter whale will be a common sight and will remain so for most of PAX. Nevertheless Twitter has become the defacto method of communicating and it will prove to be the most reliable and dynamic source of information on the internets. Whilst its up that is! For more info please go to this thread.
I trust the above is of some use to you. Oh and congratulations to you and your significant other in your new little person. I'm sure he/she will grow into a resplendent gaming personage, especially considering the fact that the little mite spent its time in Mummy's womb listening to gaming podcasts from the PAX'09show floor!
Pfft. The person in the back seat NEVER gives directions. It's just bad protocol. If you want to give directions, sit your ass in the front.
Psh. Back seat = plenty of room to spread out a giant ass map, put your feet up, and bark orders to your cohorts.
And anyway, I was just trying to give her the feeling that she was participating in the driving, since, ya know, she would be sprawled across the back seat relaxing the whole time.

Map, shmap- Any true geek would have a GPS device and know the EXACT route and know how not to get lost.

Shouldn't a geek believe the map quest gods, not need to know the way, and follow it to the ends of the earth despite knowing the computer is trying to kill you by driving you into the ocean?

I have a map of the country that my parents used to use to travel before I was born. It's never gotten me lost. It has, actually, gotten me found after map quest/technology got me lost.
I believe in the power of the road map.

I believe in the power of knowing where you're going. During CCST 2007, we had our major meet-up at the truck stop in South Bend, Indiana. When everybody was together, ready to go, and in order, we headed off to get on the highway. The car at the very end (from Canada) had a GPS. We all got onto I-90W. The GPS told them to get on I-90E. So instead of following the five cars in front him, who all were going to the same place they were, they follow the GPS and get on the highway going in the opposite direction.
So, we got them on the phone, and slowed down a bit to allow them to turn around and catch up. The irony? The GPS told them to get off at the next exit, and get on the onramp for the westbound side of the highway.
tl;dr know where you're going before you turn on the GPS
I'm really struggling to justify paying $1000+ for a flight and downtown Seattle hotel combination package. Especially since I can get to (and stay for the same amount of time) Anime Weekend Atlanta, later in September 2009, for about $600. So I might miss PAX this year. Right now, the only things keeping me from outright saying "no" to PAX are...
1) seeing Seattle, a city where I've never been (and obviously, a con I've not yet experienced)
2) the possibility of meeting RetroforceGo at PAX
3) getting to Pink Godzilla
I dunno if those three things are worth about $400 more. I'm planning to decide yes or no in the next few days...

Anime Weekend < PAX
Atlanta < Seattle
Flying$ > Driving$
The math here is irrefutable.
Don't listen to Moe about flying. Start shopping around for flights now and you'll find that they'll be around $400 depending on where you're flying from and when. For the hotel look in the room share thread. If you split a hotel room with 3 other people for 4 nights you'll be looking at paying less than $200. Other alternatives are the Green Tortoise Hostel where a lot of PAXians will be staying for cheap.
I like RFGo, because it's silly and usually off topic. They have their elitist and weeaboo moments, which are embarrassing... but I know that I can be an elitist and a weeaboo.
I used to listen to Retronauts, but I felt its cynicism level was over 9000, so I stopped listening to that podcast.
Taking Amtrak or a car to Seattle would take days. It might be cheap, but I'm not sure if I can spare that much time.
Things I liked when I was at Anime Weekend Atlanta (AWA) 2007:
* plenty of internet celebrities I like.
* a balanced crowd -- not too many obnoxious teens, /b/tards, or elitist old school fans. And also not as overwhelmingly male as one small comics con I attended.
* few long lines.
* tons of fan made videos.
* video rooms with lesser known and rare shows.
* not-too-pricy food nearby.
* serious and silly panels.
* a separate arcade room (which, compared to other con aspects, skewered male).
* relatively safe location.
* nearby hotels didn't cost too much.
* modest airfare.
...So yeah, unless I find some amazing, well-hidden flight and hotel bargains soon, I'll take a pass on PAX (as well as Dragon Con).
I'm in the same boat this year. I had everything planned out, all I was waiting for was my state tax refund check. Needless to say, I got shafted on the amount I'm getting back. Leave it to H&R Block to screw ya. If it wasn't for airfare costing me around $500-$600, I would have the cash to go. I had a blast at last year's PAX (my first one) and I was looking forward to attending this year's.
On a sad but happy note, I'll be at the East Coast one next year. I have family and some close friends in the Boston area that I'll be staying with.

For two days on minimal sleep?
We'll all take pictures, report and perform shamelessly whatever we can do to keep you as near to PAX as possible.

Minivan + other drivers.
You = pregnant w/ feet propped up in the backseat, giving orders and/or directions.
Or, you can always subscribe to the PAX twitters. I'm sure we'll be tweeting and posting video uploads on youtube.
