I heard there were problems in the Japanese version.

One example I remember was that there was a problem with the dungeons. Can't for the life of me remember what it was.

Can someone help me out here?

Or maybe provide a list of what has been upgraded/changed?

The problem with the dungeons you were hearing about was probably that some of the later ones are very long and repetitive. As long as you go into the game realizing that trying to beat a single dungeon in a single sitting is a really bad idea (aside from the first couple of dungeons), it shouldn't be too bad. Oh and you might want to take notes since it's easy to miss stuff.

Mmmph. Random encounters for the loss. After FFXII that'll be really hard to get used to. At least they're fought FFXII-style.

I am very keen on picking this game up regardless, though. For one, the heroine actually seems to have Penelo beaten in the cute factor. (Not only that, but Miss Kari Wahlgren will be voicing that character, I think! Woot!)

Do hook us up with some vids, Etoy, it'd sort out a lot of questions we have.

I really don't mind random battles, so long as the battles are fun. Shadow Hearts is great about this. And I trust Level 5. What I really liked about Dark Cloud was item creation...and in this it seams they did a similar thing, but it lets you customize your character. I am LOVING the idea of that! Ilove having control over my character!

I heard quite awhile back that a lot of the people excited over Rogue Galaxy have not actually gone and gone through the game (this was back when it was newish in Japan)... now, I don't know the truth of that since I haven't played it myself, but the worry for me was that early concerns about repetition in the early game DO come through as the game goes on.

The sad irony is that I'm probably going to go and get the game anyway to see the truth for myself.

If it eventually has a bunch of long repetitive dungeons, it'll be just like Dark Cloud 2...and I can live with that, because I still enjoyed the hell out of Dark Cloud 2 (not so much the first one), despite some of its' flaws.

I thought it was funny how at one point two characters died in a battle, then when it was over they just walked up from offscreen like nothing was wrong.

Really digging the arcade-y vibe of the game.

One thing keeps me from taking the plunge on this though. In Dark Cloud 2, there were tons and tons of little things all over the place you could do, like getting medals and stuff for each floor of each dungeon, taking pictures of every conceivable thing, leveling up monsters, customizing the ridepod, etc. etc. I found all this stuff to be highly distracting if I didn't do it (OMG what am I missing out on!?) and highly boring if I did, so I ended up shelving the game before getting past the 2nd or 3rd town. I enjoyed the original a lot more because it was a more focused experience. How's Rogue Galaxy rank on the distraction meter?

I actually really liked having so many options...you could safely ignore the stuff that didn't interest you, and just do what did.

I never touched the spheda stuff, because it just wasn't fun. The monsters were useless too...so I just didn't worry about it.

Taking pictures and inventing stuff was enough fun keep me constantly moving to new places, just to take more pictures.

If I had a problem with Dark Chronicle (European title for Dark Cloud 2) it wasn't the amount of stuff to do. It was that a lot of it had to be done at certain times. Stuff like how there were a bunch of special photographs that could only be gotten during unrepeatable boss fights or how the fish competitions were only held at certain times. I don't mind games with lots of disparate stuff to do but I'd prefer to be left to do the bits I want to do when I want to do them as it was, playing the game felt like way too much effort.

Why bump the one from one day ago when you can bump the one from two months ago?

I cannot wait to play this. From what I've heard not only will it relieve me of the boredom I went through playing FFXII, but it seems to play much, much better than that game.

    And it's so pretty. So...pretty...

I'm picking this up tomorrow, for sure.
