[Solved]Writing samples as scans

My last job involved writing and distributing press releases regularly. When that job ceased to be, our servers were being taken offline, and I printed out a large selection of my work to use as samples in my next job hunt. What I have now are a large collection of documents in print form which I have also scanned into image format, and I'd like to choose the best way to give them to prospective employers. If I'm physically handing an application packet, I'll probably just use straight copies of the documents, however I'm not exactly sure what electronic format people might prefer when being e-mailed an application.

Some of the scans have smaller text than would be comfortable reading when viewed at the initial resolution my image viewer loads (though they're a high quality enough scan to zoom in quite a bit, thus making them readable). Others have larger text. Should I try to find a way to turn them into pdfs? (If so, what's the best free way to turn a jpg into a pdf?) Should I use an internet archive site and send the employer hyperlinks? Should I just send the jpg's? Should I do something else entirely? Insight from people specifically from an industry that uses writing samples especially appreciated.

What is this I don't even.

PDF would be best I think. I would try printing them to PDF first and see where that gets you.

I was about to say, "I don't seem to have a program to do that" when I realized I had Open Office Draw, which does have that function. Thanks, solved!

PDF all the way, it makes everything look slightly more legit and they're pretty small files usually. Oh in case anyone is reading this and is thinking about turning word documents/pictures paste'd in a word document to pdf. Download http://www.cutepdf.com/ it nestles itself in your printer list, so after installing just open your doc file, hit ctrl-p, select cutepdf writer from your drop down menu and hit OK.

    I'll second the cutePDF plug.

I actually just had a client install it so that they could create PDFs all on their own. *sniff* they grow up so fast.

I definitely appreciate the cutepdf tip. Can't believe I didn't know about it.
