Neither did I, but they did a pretty good remix of Ratatat's Mirando.

Speaking of music festivals, how credible are the rumours surrounding the Splendour line-up? If Animal Collective plus a few of the others rumoured would be there, it would definitely tip me over the edge to going.

being from boulder colorado i cant go 15 feet without being assaulted by someone who wants to tell me how amazing sts9 is

but, i went last year when i visited my sister who lives in chicago and it was a blast. probably gonna attempt to go again regardless of the bands there.

nicole atkins and girl talk were the highlights of my trip last year.

if the rumoured line up is true I would do horrible things to get a ticket, but splendour is a really expensive affair - even for me

yeah travel isn't a real big deal for me being on the Gold Coast, but accommodation, the tickets themselves and everything else is a killer

yeah the three day camping pass is like $300 then there is travel, food, drugs and booze. It can easily push it past $600 and thats if you budget

and budgets at a festival fucking suck

I had a rockin time at Lolla last year. But holy fuck, this year The Builders and the Butchers are playing instead of just showing at Schubas, and they're one of my favourite favourite bands. Too bad I don't come back to Chicago until a week and a half after this weekend. :|

That's a pretty sweet lineup, but Rise Against needs to stop doing whatever it is they do. Animal Collective would be great to see live though, I'll agree.

Also, I love Depeche Mode and all but god their new song is obnoxiously awful.

If my company gives out free tickets this year, I might go for a day.

Grant Park is a couple blocks from my office.

I doubt they will this year, with budget cuts and all.

I wouldn't spend my own money on it. I don't really like outdoor music festivals.

It's just too fucking hot out to be enjoyable for me.

I would go just for the novelty of seeing (the original) Jane's lineup play, but I'm seeing them on their tour with nine inch nails at the start of june which saves me boatloads of cash.

Aside from them though it's a really solid lineup with plenty of bands i would like to see.

It wasn't bad last year, heat-wise. Just gotta keep hydrated. And they have misting tents and so forth. I had a three-day pass, but for some mysterious reason felt like poo by day three
    the reason was substance abuse

I think this and Movies in the Park are the things I'm going to miss the most while it rains on Seoul for three months straight. :|

Grant Park, actually! Where the orchestra shell is, east of Columbus and on the south side of Monroe. It's a really fun time! You should check it out. Even when the movies are just okay, it's free. It started pouring during Blues Brothers last summer and instead of stopping the movie everyone just moved up and had a ridiculous dance party in the rain.

That sounds pretty badass, Lost. I've never spent a summer in Chicago but I hear that they are pretty awesome. The only things I have planned are Lollapalloza and a Trolley Barcrawl for my birthday. I did one for Halloween and it was awesome, so I figured I'd have one for my birthday at the end of June.

Anything else I should keep my eyes open for during the summer?

Well, we spent a lot of time in Lincoln Park Zoo, it being free and all. They did a Green Apple Festival event last Earth Day that was lots of fun. Millennium Park has free concerts and strange art performance stuff al summer. Lots of neighborhoods have block parties - at least I know Uptown and Lakeview do. And there's the Blues Festival. Taste of Chicago annoys the crap out of me, but there's no shortage of other fun stuff to do, really. What trolley crawl did you go on?

Not sure. It was 35 people (I only knew like 2 of them) and it just drove us around to different bars.

The only reason people got off was to go take a piss or take a shot. We were allowed to bring alcohol on the trolley so a bunch of people brought cases or handles and we just got stupid drunk while driving around the different neighborhoods.

It wasn't a bad deal either. $20 to ride and it was a really nice night out

Let me give you all the advice you need for summer festivities in Chicago:

Stay the fuck away from the Loop to Navy Pier lake front for the 4th of July. Every asshole and his 3rd cousin will be there...and if it is hot (and it always is), it is goddamn unbearable.

it's better to go to the less popular north side beaches on the 4th and just eat some food and drink some beer

they're littered with people blowing shit up and it looks awesome over the water

Should I stay put and enjoy that area, or try and make it to Wrigleyville, Lincoln Park, etc.
