Of course, having me give the Presidency to someone else is the sound strategy. Zarek's the one who should get it, obviously, Apollo's busy in shooting down Raiders all the time and you might have to go in the tube as well - and it's never a good idea for one person to be Admiral and President. Whoever's calling the vote, I suggest they do it sooner rather than later, while things are relatively not so bad.

As Tigh finished his call to sickbay, Lt. Gaeta approached him solemnly, much as he did with his suspicions about Helo.

"Are you serious about turning over control of the government to that convicted terrorist? The deranged scientist is one thing; he's too cowardly to be power hungry. But, Zarek?"

"Well what the frak would you rather me do?" growled the new Admiral.

"To be honest, sir, there's only one person here that I feel comfortable putting in charge of anything. Someone who can get this fleet back on its feet." Gaeta stared at Tigh as the grizzled officer slowly took in Gaeta's full meaning...

With a sigh, Tigh picked up the com, "Mr Gaeta, put me through to the fleet"

    "This is the Admiral.

As you are now becoming aware, the recent events aboard Galactica have thrown the leadership of this fleet, both militarily and politically, into disarray.

For some time now, the people have been uneasy with the leadership of President Gaius Baltar; his recent accusations against William Adama have not only left the military without one of its greatest resources, but has cast further suspicion upon the President himself.

Until such time as a new President can lawfully be elected by the people, and the current Cylon threat has been repelled, I have no other option but to suspend the Quorum and declare Martial Law.

    That is all."

Apollo sat in his cockpit, weary from engaging and re-engaging the cylon raiders with little to no response from Galactica. And now this... his own father. A cylon? Never. This couldn't be. If ANYONE was a cylon, it was Baltar. Gaius. Baltar. Apollo executed a zero-point turn to avoid additional cylon fire. His mind was elsewhere.

And now... Tigh as Admiral AND President? It was no secret that the man spent his days in an alcohol-induced stupor. Things were going from bad to worse. And now... it couldn't be. Streaks came out of the basestar's midsection, heading right for.. No...

Apollo's warning falls much too late. With Adama's arrest and Tigh's seizure of power, Galactica is a sitting target for the incoming nukes. As they barrage the ship's hull, one of them strikes a water storage tank, venting nearly a hundred tons of water into space.

Baltar was walking slowly back to his quarters, only half-aware of his surroundings. Everything that had happened these past few hours had left him dazed and unsure. He only noticed the marines when they were right next to him, running past. "One side!" one of them barked gruffly, shoulder-checking Baltar against the corridor wall. No doubt that was intentional, thought Gaius, massaging his sore shoulder. Probably one of Tigh's little ways of telling me how he regards me. He stood there for a few moments after the marines had passed and rounded the corner, and then wondered to himself just why they had been running by in the first place. That's when the gunfire started.

While the new Admiral President was busy fighting with the cylons, the former president, Gaius Baltar, noticed something strange. The results from his recent cylon testings had disappeared, taking away his only evidence against William Adama. In fact, much of the equipment in his office had been moved or handled in the hours since he exposed Adama. Gaius could only assume that these events were related... was someone trying to prevent him from detecting cylons? Only time would sort out just how extensive the damage to his laboratory was...

Word gets to Colonial one about Admiral Tigh's latest order. I'm still not comfortable with his holding as much power as he does, but chaos must be controlled so I do what I can. I galvanize a few of the politicians sitting around into forming an investigative committee, who in turn work with their, shall we say, less reputable, leaders among the people. Palms are pressed, ears are turned, and names start to turn up. I send a quick report back to the Admiral.

While I realize that Baltar's test may be a fraud and that he could be messing with us as he is wont to do, this sort of behavior cannot be tolerated on the last warship of the 12 colonies. Therefore, I propose that we form a joint military/civil committee to go to the end of this matter. Also, my base of power has been eroded while I guested on your fine ship and some of my supporters saw fit to abandon me. Baltar was in his lab picking up pieces of test tubes and trying to pile the papers according to vague relations. This was terrible, just terrible... Adama was in the brig, but no doubt there were those still loyal to him. He was behind this sabotage, Baltar just knew it. "Don't worry," Baltar said to no one. "It'll take more than this to stop Gaius Baltar." He'd already made a phone call to Zarek - the man would probably have nothing to do with Baltar now, but if they were going to find out who was responsible for this they would need to put pressure on Tigh.

"So wait, you're telling me that nobody over there got the memos?"

"That is correct, sir. They never came through. At least...not that anybody can prove, or will admit to."

I stare at the aide incredulously. "But you did send them, didn't you?"

"As soon as you got them to me sir. I even did a receive confirmation check on them, they just disappeared into the system on the other side. And that's not all. It's almost like the military personnel were on a work slowdown out of loyalty to Adama, sir. Reports just didn't get filed, people were 'un-locatable' for long long enough, that the investigation just fizzled."

"Adama should've done something. Even if this is a huge misunderstanding, the people come first, and we have to be able to locate the cylons! He should've done something..."

I trail off, not knowing what to say next. I dismiss the aid with a thank you, and continue to ponder. I turn back to the reports I had been going over. Jump course plotting 80% complete. New cylon heavy detected. Only Apollo and Cat actually able to launch up to now, due to the accident in the launch bay. And now what seems like mutiny originating from the old man himself. I make up my mind.

"I need to speak with Admiral Tigh." The comm crackles.

"Tigh here, what the frak are you still doing over there Helo, I thought I told you to get your ass in a cockpit!"

"Orders never came through sir, last I'd heard I was to be rallying the people. And unless you say otherwise sir, I think this is the best place for me to be."

"I'll think about it...Now what did you need? I'm pretty frakkin' busy over here Helo."

"Sir, as you know, the jump drive is 80% to ready for jump. That seems close, but I'm worried about Apollo. If something happens to the computers, and we don't get out of here soon, he may run out of luck, or out of time. I think you should head down to the FTL in case we have to make an emergency jump. I'll be looking over the charts some more, I may be able to help from here in a bit. ECO classes have to be good for something...

"Also, sir, I know you have a lot on your plate, and I really think it would ease the people's minds if you resigned the presidency to Tom Zarek. He has a lot of pull with the people, sir, and I think that doing that could help a lot with calming some of the political mess that we're in. Or if you'd rather not deal with him directly, I think I've made a few connections here, give me just a little time and I could get some people to help, if we manage to jump soon. We could make the transition smoother in the near future."

"Like I said, Helo, I'll think about it. Don't wander far from the comm, Tigh out."
First things first, the crisis resolution mentioned jump prep at 4/5, would just like a fix in the turn/status post to make sure ^.^.
Second, I tried to make my thoughts on the Admiral, current turn move/action, and future action plans clear. I know we want as little in spoilers and as much in RP as possible, but with delays in communication, and with as close a shave as human win seems to be, I hesitate to NOT clarify in some of my posts...

News of the equipment failure inevitably reached the former Admiral.

"Hmph." He grunted to himself. "They can blame me all they want, Sergeant. They're the ones who threw me in here..

"I know, Admiral. But shouldn't you have said, you know, something?" Sergeant Klein of the Galactica Marines stood guard at his cell today. He was one of Adama's loyalists, though he wouldn't exactly let anyone else hear of it.

"Sergeant, this is the military, not some civilian organization. I've been stripped of power, the fleet's been fragmented, and all for what? The opinions of a half-crazed, now former president? We all thought he was crazy back on Caprica, a genius, maybe, but also crazy. And somehow, I'm the one in here."

"I understand, sir, but people may die because you didn't say anything, you know."

"I will not, and I repeat to you, I will NOT tolerate DISLOYALTY ABOARD MY SHIP."

He caught his breath, and continued speaking. "Baltar's equipment has been damaged. As far as I'm concerned, that's a good thing. Honestly, Sergeant, he used that frakking thing to throw me in here, didn't he? At least now he won't be able to use it again, to incriminate someone else. At least now, I'm the only casualty in this conflict he's set up."

"You know, Admiral, I'd never thought of it that way."

"I'm not the Admiral anymore, Sergeant. Former president Baltar saw fit to strip me of that title unilaterally, due to the results of that frakking detector. You ask me? It was faulty before any of this happened. All we did was scrap a piece of junk anyway. I'm not going to waste my breath defending someone at least twice as likely to be crazy as I am, protecting their right to incriminate even more innocent people."

    "But, sir..."

"Did anyone die? Was anyone injured?"

    "Well, no..."

"Was this the cause of any damage to Galactica, or any of the fleet?"

    "..."

"Did this cause anything, other than to prevent Baltar from using that damned detector as an excuse to throw his political enemies into the brig?"

    "..."

    "Well, did it, Sergeant?"

    "No, sir. It didn't."

"I rest my case. I may not be Admiral anymore, but frak if I'm just going to sit here and watch Baltar screw with the fleet more than I must."

Baltar sat at his desk in his ruined laboratory, scientific notes and print outs still scattered about and mixed with papers from his short political career. He held his head in his hands, staring at the surface of the table, a number of conflicting emotions inside him fighting for dominance. Eventually, anger won out, and he let out a roar as he he swept his arm across the table, smashing test tubes and beakers against the wall.

He looked at empty space beside him, with tears of rage threatening to brim over. "Shut up." he whispered, and then he collapsed onto the desk, sobbing.

Apollo weaves between the attacking raiders and fires several volleys at the heavy raider. His aim is true, but his target's armor plating turns out to be far more durable than he anticipated; the cylons shrug off the fire from his first pass. Apollo swings around to try again, but the heavy raider is also more maneuverable than Apollo gave the bulk credit for. The nearby raiders close in on him, but Apollo is reluctant to give up the chase. At least, he is until a raider drops right onto his tail and opens fire.

It takes Apollo every trick he knows to lose the raider while avoiding damage to his viper. But as the raider's wingmen barrage him from the side, Apollo's viper shudders as his port reverse thruster is damaged. Not critical damage, noted Apollo, but he's going to have be careful trying any more of that stunt flying. Oddly, the raiders seem more focused on keeping him occupied than on destroying his ship. This mystery is solved rather quickly, however; Apollo doesn't need DRADIS to point out the Basestar that just jumped in and is now bearing down on the defenseless fleet. No sooner does Starbuck's viper come shooting out of the launch tube than she's in his face over the comms. "What the frak are you doing out here, Lee?!"

Meanwhile, on Galactica, a eerie silence suddenly fills the CIC as the FTL drive stops spooling. It appears that whoever took out Baltar's detector didn't stop there...

"Galactica, Apollo. Multiple new cylon contacts across the scope. Requesting launch alert Vipers. Repeat, this is the CAG requesting launch of additional birds to protect the fleet. My viper is in rough shape, and I don't know how much more I can bob and weave my way out of some of these scrapes."

"Gods DAMN it!" Adama said, kicking the bars of his cell. The marine standing guard was not nervous, this much was expected. Adama had been kept very well informed of the happenings, and the bad news had just arrived.

"Are you telling me that another frakking cylon fleet just jumped in? Why the frak are we still here, Sergeant?!"

"The fleet's not ready to jump yet, sir. Some sort of FTL failure, or so the rumor's going around. The whole fleet's going to need to spin up their FTL's again before we book it."

"And until then we're sitting ducks!" Adama sat back down on his bunk. "By now Apollo's been up there, how long? He must be getting tired, not even the best viper pilot in the whole colonial fleet could make it for long out in pitched battle. Even if we send some of the new recruits out there, well, with a swarm this size, well, I guess we just better pray."

    "What do you think, sir?"

"If it were me calling the shots?" He chuckled to himself. "I'd say it's about time to get out of here."

Frak. If you want something right, you have to do it yourself.

I commandeer a raptor to get back to Galactica. I start shouting orders as soon as I step into FTL control.

"Gaeta! Get us ready to jump, we're out of here."

Lt. Gaeta jumps as I yell his name, and stares at me. "Sir, weren't you on Colonial One?"

"I was, but someone needs to get us the frak out of here before we're all dead, and everyone else seems to be too busy staring each other down as the ship collapses around us." I throw him a stack of charts I've been working on. "These star chart readings should help us, but the gods are going to have to smile down if we're not going to lose anyone. Get us the frak out of here. NOW!"

Gaeta swings back to his computer, papers in hand.

I get on the com-link to the fleet, "Action stations, action stations. Set condition one throughout the fleet and standby for combat jump." Flipping over to the fighter channel, "Apollo, Cat, come home, we're getting out of here now."

I know combat's never easy...but still we got caught with our pants around our ankles. "If we can't handle this, only the gods know if we'll even make it to the end."

I signal a nearby crew member. "I need you to run down to the armory. Alert the admiral that we're going to have to roll the hard six. Whenever he and the former president are done playing patty-cake in the armory, we need to know what to do next, so alert me as soon as he's made up his mind."

The ensign takes off at a dead run.

"Lieutenant Gaeta," he looks up at me, "I know there's a cylon in the fleet somewhere, but we can't let them mess with our heads. We can't be wasting time on the little problems that don't exist when there are bigger ones out there. It's all about efficiency...wasted time is wasted life..." That last spoken quietly to myself as I stair at the situation board. Gods help us all.
Discard Piloting 2 to move to FTL, activate it using Tactics 5 and ECO re roll if I have to in order to keep people alive.

Do you, in fact, have any builds in this shop at all?

"Apollo, Cat, come home, we're getting out of here now."

"Roger, Galactica. Is that you, Helo? What are you doing in CIC?"

Apollo ducks and weaves his wounded ship into a crashdown landing on Galactica's hangar bay last, making sure all other Vipers are safely inside before reporting all birds in the nest.

"May the gods have mercy on us all..."

The sabotage appeared to only have affected Galactica; most of the rest of the fleet was ready to jump. Several of the civilian ships lagged behind, but fortunately it was none of the ships nearest to the incoming cylons. As laser fire and nuclear warheads criss-crossed the space around them, Galactica and the rest of humanity jumped away to safety.
