Yeah, I don't know about that. A figure like that seems awfully high for a conventional war with only one-side having control of the air.
Airplanes can't shoot down artillery shells and I say that assuming after an initial attack on Seoul most of those casualties would be North Korean.
The part I object to on a personal level is the 'initial attack on Seoul' part.
As far as the relatively unknown state of the majority of North Koreans, even if they are brain-washed into contentedness with their lives, South Korea would have a great deal of trouble selling a slash-and-burn style invasion. You have to bear in mind that the separation between the two countries is a relatively recent thing, and that many people who are still alive and kicking lost contact with family members and still hope someday to reunite with them. Or at least discover what became of them after the divide.

kim jong will die, son gets into power, liberalises economy to a degree, becomes half autarky, people will probably be dying less maybe :?:
can't really be certain that a son of his will get into power
north korea is a fundamentally a junta with a veneer of dynastic totalitarianism, as was engineered by jong-il in his succession, so any pick by him would need to have the support of the military
but i was thinking and concluded that as any retreat from autarky would basically have to happen on western terms it's not likely to happen unless some really catastrophic things go down
it's impressive how thoroughly distanced they've managed to stay since the downfall of the USSR
