    Hey guys remember that other Star Wars MMO? The one that sucked really hard the more work they put into it, and which finally killed any chance at success by becoming a lame third person shooter and removing half the classes and now it's slowly dying an agonizing death?

    It wasn't really good, I don't think

    It was just really, really different

    Then and now there was nothing like it at all, and I have some real fond memories of it

    A detailed history of it's development would probably be really interesting if only to marvel at how badly the development team managed to fuck up over such a long period of time

    i am excited for this game. i hope there's no monthly fee. it seems to me that more modern mmos need to do the whole free to play thing and focus on micro-transactions.

    There was a really interesting interview with one of the senior developers about SWG and the NGE some months ago. It was really very good. I think it was in the Escapist MMO edition.. let me see if I can find it.

    Micro-transactions? You mean paying a little bit every week just to get some piece of armor or special content?

    I hate games with that payment system. Just let me pay a monthly fee and let me have access to the same content as everyone else.

    And yes, of course I'd read a Star Wars book with zombies.

    Man I played the hell out of the first Dark Forces when I was little, probably about when it came out. I never got very far because 7 year old me must have sucked at video games and also the game got confusing re: trying to figure out where the hell you are going.

    For a while there, I considered the original Dark Forces as the pinnacle of first person shooters. I was never a fan of Duke 3D, but the engine and level design of Dark Forces seemed to be pretty much the best thing on the market until Quake was released.

    That window was probably less than a year, but I enjoyed it while it lasted.

    I guess that'll be the deciding factor for me if I want to buy the game or what

    I'm signed up on the site to get updates, but when I went to log in it seemed that the site's login function and such was fucked up beyond all hope of repair, for now, so I didn't bother signing up for the beta.
