On the other hand, I wouldn't have been there at all. I'd have ignored the call. ;p
what did bards end up as in phb2?
Yea, there is definitely 4 kids not stone at the start, then one kid gets turned to stone, and there are 4 kids not stone at the end.
It really didn't make sense to me either, making your saving throws against a save or die in 3 rounds effect is a pretty big deal, especially if it initially starts to get you and it was just left absent out of the thing.
I'm trying to gently breath life into this ember by setting up a night to play Hero Quest with some friends, which will hopefully be fun, and give them a very, very basic look at what is essentially "D&D Super, Duper, Ultra Lite Edition". If they have enough fun with a dungeon crawl or two through those adventures, perhaps I can form my own game. I'll be destined to DM, but in the name of getting a group rolling, I might just have to bite that bullet. (I exaggerate; I don't dislike DM'ing, and 4th edition looks like it'd be fun to DM, but my natural preference is usually to be a Player as opposed to running the show).
I am Carlos, the dwarf.
Not to poke at stereotypes (seriously, Shelly Mazzanoble?) but don't forget to include roleplaying and not just orc-killing.
The game itself does include some 'flavour text' here and there, and I'll likely try to spice up the combat descriptions based on what happens and how the dice roll, but I don't think I'll push too much 'roleplay' this early on. It's mostly just an attempt to whet their appetite for adventure, and see who sticks around for more.
I wouldn't push it, but just allow for it (ie: interacting with an innkeeper or the local wizard). Actor-y types are put off by only dice hitting the table.
you can't really play D&D without an 80 in WoW and a 60 in FFXI. Those are the basic skills Gary Gygax required, so will it be forever.
Though to be fair, under the circumstances I'd cut the group some slack and give the kid at least partial concealment, maybe full if the statue was a fat kid.
basic maptools works just fine. you don't need to code up an entire suite for it.
and I'm sure goum or aegeri could supply you with a starting point for all that too~ ;p
RIGHT YOU TWO?
edit: yea, I'd say a petrified player is an object. mere scenery. until they get fixed. just like their corpse, but not when they're dying.
I'm actually giddy about the new classes. What setting specific classes would you love to see?
Dark Sun could give us the Templars a new type of Divine class. I could see a new Primal from Dragonlance tied to the Mystics that SAGA gave us. Thoughts?
Oh very true. But as Candlekeep's 12th most prolific poster (just started posting there again after like 3-4 years off), I have to point out that it is the best place to nerd out about Realms stuff. On the other hand, the edition wonkery...ugh. "This isn't my REALMS/D&D/CHICKEN, I'm playing 2e/3e/Pathfinder" gets really, really old.
As opposed to Candlekeep, where the general response is "LALALALALALA SELLPLAGUE NEVERHAPPENED"
Did things really break down that fast on the 4e Realms boards? All I remember from about 2006 were people going angsty at the Chosen and fanboying about Drizzt, nothing that terrible.
I'm not going to say too much (because I know my players read this thread), but I asked them some very pointed questions about Mystra's Chosen recently. While they definitely screwed up some stuff in the 4e transition (having Sehanine in the PHB but not in the Realms is hilarious), that's no need to get all pissy about it.
argh. another one from the highlight reel of our "stupidest d&d arguments ever"
whatever you do
don't ask this question into the mirror five times
what, do I grow Elminster's stat block
From what I gather Pathfinder is really only a modest improvement over 3.5 with a ton of new options for the base classes and really high production values. Also, they added a Fly skill!
I love this thread on RPG.net: Pathfinder Preview Thread After reading so many threads that claim that Pathfinder is going to be the greatest thing ever it's nice to actually see a thread where people point out the game's flaws based on the new preview material.
so basically they're aggravating instead of fixing the 3e option problem, yay! And I'm guessing fighters still boil down to stab, pierce, or blunt, repeat.
Well, any previous statement where something's considered to be "the greatest thing ever" has already been proven wrong, since the product that deserves said title has already been released.
*points down*
Boosh.
