[DND 4E]Recruitment: Keep on the Shadowfell

edited June 2009 in Critical Failures
Having not been able to run a good game for a while, I'd like to get one going. I'm recruiting 5 players, and please don't have listened to the PA podcasts where they play this module, as that's somewhat of a giant cheaty spoiler.

Player submissions may include anything from released sourcebooks, but no magazine stuff. If you're iffy, ask me and i'll let you know.

Everyone starts at level 1 with the standard stuff one gets at level 1. To make starting easier, I'm also going to assume everyone in the party knows each other already.

I'm going to try to run the game without fudging any numbers anywhere and see where that takes us as well.

So drop a bio, character sheet and all that jazz, and let's do it. Rolls will be taking place on invisiblecastle.com, and myth-weavers for character sheets.

I do ask that if accepted into the game, you use the DnD character creator or an equivalent to send me a PDF of your character, or make incredibly detailed entries for your powers and such on mythweavers. I'm currently out of the country, but just itchin' to get something started, and my netbook doesn't quite like the DnD creator program.

So, let's see 'em!

Deadline for entries is THIS SUNDAY.

Hmmm.... I don't know much about KotS. Is there anything you can tell me about the start of the adventure? I tend to let the flavor precede the mechanics for characters I create.

Any alignment is fine, but if there's 4 good paladins and 1 evil rogue, I'm probably going to stick to the good guys, so as to keep fairly good party cohesion.

Ooh, thanks Megazver, didn't realize that was there. Handy.

From the book, here's your plot hook. "Winterhaven grew up in the shadow of an old keep. Like other similar structures across the land, the keep fell into disrepair when the empire of Nerath crumbled a hundred years earlier. Winterhaven survives to this day, a modest point of light in a world that has grown darker and more dangerous. A scholar named Parle Cranewing has hired your group to locate the old keep and map it. He has handed you ink and parchment and has offered to pay 250gp for a complete rendering of what is left of the keep. As your merry band of adventurers named..___ has yet to aquire much of a reputation, you set off to try and earn a name for yourself, and the gold."

His abilities are stripped down from the compendium, so i don't think you'll need a PDF.

CB demo should fill all your needs for levels 1-3 if you want some chocolaty goodness.

Just a heads up that there has been a KoTS PbP going for a while now here, so your players are going to have to resist the urge to look ahead.

I've changed up quite a bit of it though.

I really did not get to explore Morbin's character nearly as much as I would have liked to (curse you Legionairred!), so if he would meet with your approval, I'd love to play him again. If not, I can design a character specifically for this campaign.

I did see the tower actually. Pretty cool, though the torture room was a huge letdown. I return on the 20th, so when that rolls around I'll have a day or two of plane flight and jetlag between posting, but i should be able to do regular updates most of the time without incident.

I'd love to play! I have a 1st level tiefling warlock named Torment who could slouch alongside the party, if you want her. Been dying to try out a warlock.

It would be my first time in a play-by-post, so bear with my stupid questions.

Do I send her character sheet to you by PM? I'll be adding her to mythweavers shortly as well.

Mythweavers is usually considered sufficient. Tell us about Torment!

Mythweavers sheet complete. Meet Torment. She is a tiefling teenager, wearing an oversized padded leather jacket. Her dark hair hangs over her eyes most of the time, and her posture makes her seem even shorter than she actually is. You won't need to pick locks with her around, you could probably slide her under the door.

She tends to latch onto anyone who looks like they could protect her, warrior types, and particularly females. There's no sex appeal to her, unless you happen to be a freaking pedophile. She strongly radiates a 'protect me' vibe, and charitable souls frequently want to take her home to feed and clothe her.

At a casual glance, she could be any shy and quiet teenage girl, albeit a bit immature for her age. If you spend a little time with her though, you might notice a disturbing trait. She occasionally converses with an imaginary friend, apparently named 'Mia'. Disturbingly, when she speaks with Mia, she is apparently unaware that no one else can see or hear her. It might be an affectation, but it's more than a little creepy.

She carries a slingshot (sling) and a dagger which appears to have been improvised from half a pair of scissors. The pockets of her jacket seem to bulge with random objects, and whenever there is a few quiet moments she will distractedly empty a pocket and sort through the contents as if to reassure herself everything is there before returning them.

She would probably join the party by stubbornly following another character, even if she was unwanted.

    --
Note, Torment doesn't seem goth, or tragic, just naive and young.

I've been interested in trying out a D&D campaign since the first Penny Arcade/PvP podcast. But I never really knew anyone that ran anything (the horrors of living in a small city). I have been reading a lot of these PbP adventures on the forum and its about time I actually try one out (if I get selected). But, like I said, I'm pretty much brand spanking new at this.

Anyways, I'm submit Cruxil, Genasi Earthsoul Warden*

Yes you could say it is a bit odd. Thanks after reading the rules it does seem to be unusual to have that extra point doing absolutely unusual. I don't think my character is going to die because of it.
    Wrok's history:
Wrok is a human orphan that was raised by Gensai. His parents made him fascinated with the elements. When he became old enough he became an apprentice to a wizard. Through the wizard he managed to gain control over the elements that his parents had. Through his new found abilities he wishes to honor his parents by fighting for justice.
