Everyone who gets a car from their parents should burn in the fires of Hades.

I got a firm handshake when I turned 21. Well, and a game of some sort, I can't remember what.

The car I inherited from my mom cost me more to maintain than buying my own cheaper to own wheels.

That Caddy was awfully pretty back in its day though.

I'm referring more to people whose parents buy them a brand new car when they turn whatever age.

My last girlfriend had a car that her parents bought her, and always seemed shocked when I mentioned I didn't have a car. I suppose I could buy something cheap, but I live within walking distance of work, groceries and my favourite pub. Vehicles aren't entirely necessary for me.

Oh yeah with you there. If I didn't need a car for pretty much everything I wouldn't pay the $600 a month it costs me to finance and insure it.

What do you guys use to organise your finances? I tried Quckbooks for a while but I reinstalled and it made me ring up to reinitialise my key or some shit and I never bothered, so currently I don't really keep track of everyday transactions. How about you guys?

My dad took me to the bars when I was 21. I got wasted, then climbed into a go-go cage with a dancer. Somehow, didn't get my ass kicked.

Everyone else's 21st birthdays sound so much more exciting than mine.

I think I may have gotten Chromehounds, come to think of it. Which was a pretty neat game, but still. It's no laptop.

Also I am using this thread to plug some awesome sites and services that anyone who likes to keep on top of their finances should use. Best of all, they're both free.

Mint.com allows you to securely input your various online bank, credit card, loans, invesments, 401ks logins and pulls the results into a single, attractive layout to see just where your money is going each month. It can also provide comparisons to other offers that might benefit you more (ie a credit card that with a lower interest rate/rewards program) It's also got a fantastic iPhone app.

Credit Karma is a site that allows you to monitor your credit score for changes, and, similar to Mint, show you alternatives to your current finances to get a better deal.

I have no debt. I usually have around 500 or so on my credit card every month, but I pay that off each time.

My savings have take a bit of a beating this year cause of a couple car problems, but I should be able to go back to saving now.

Plus, I'm going to get half of my apartment security deposit back in a couple months, so I'll be happy to have that back.

Last I checked, my credit score was around 780. That was in February.

it'll pay off most of my credit card debt and leave enough to buy my plane ticket to PAX

Also I splurged and bought a pair of RayBan Wayfarers 8-)

They use some kind of fucking arcane mathematics to figure them. After paying off one of my cards, my score went down.

I love dividend checks. I always forget about them, and then one day there's a check in my mailbox for 300 bucks.

That shit always makes my day.

Yeah inquiries drop you down like 1 or 5 points or something and I got slammed with them buying a new car, moving apartments, and changing addresses after the move.

I'm upgrading shit and paying the bills, you assholes!

I actually probably have a mediocre credit score but it no longer matters because I got a house loan. As long as we keep making those payments we are good to go.
I got turned down for a free cell phone once because I had no credit history at all.

    Nope, birthday in October (11th).

Falls on the (Canadian) Thanksgiving long weekend again this year.

[edit] In Canada, I believe credit inquiries don't affect your score, but they are noted in the history.

Hell, my own bank turned me down for a credit card. Then they sent me one anyway.

I've got a Chase Amazon Rewards card, an Amex Blue, and a CapitalOne that I got when I was 19 and since it's my oldest card I just have Xbox Live charged to it every month to keep it active. I used to have some fancy Lenscrafters credit card but they closed the account because I hadn't used it since buying my last pair of glasses, two years ago.

Going to see a tax dude today to amend or whatever and get the "up to $8000" for first time homeowners. Gonna probably buy a ginormous t.v. and put the rest in savings.

My wife had to buy the house herself because my credit score was so low that she couldn't get a loan with me co-signing. :(

I currently have as much in savings as I do in debt. All my debt is currently earning no interest so as it stands, it is better from an interest standing to leave it this way.
