So, my dad's going to laid up for a few months after hip surgery. He's looking for a laptop he can use, mainly for surfing the internet. As I know absolutely nothing about laptops, macbooks, netbooks etc, I could use some help finding one for him. I imagine 1000 dollars would be as high as he'd be willing to go, but I don't imagine that being a huge limitation in an internet only machine.

A Netbook would be perfect for him. The 10" models are very light (under 3 pounds), so they'll be comfortable to use for long periods on the bed, and the battery life can last 6-8 hours depending on use.
