Anno 1404/Dawn of Discovery: growing hemp for fun and profit (NSF56K/H-scroll)

Dawn of Discovery is pretty excellent you guys. You get to do stuff like chop wood and herd sheep and build cities, but in an awesome way.

Anno4_SS_Metropole_01_full.jpg

You gotta tend to the people and make sure they have clothes and wool and honey and what not. And if they don't have those things on your island home you better bring them there, or else your burgening civilization will never get to look like this:

Anno4_SS_Kathedrale_01_full.jpg

Did I mention you can go sailing? Well, you can go sailing! probably to discover an island that has all those luxurious items, like soap. But you may just discover something fantastic: The Orient! full of new people you can bankrupt, declare war upon, and infect with diseases.

Anno4_SS_orientNPC_02_full.jpg

So let's talk about this game and how great it is.

This looks pretty cool. I assume it's only on PC so I'll never play it.

    Sorry, thread.

Did anyone play the offshoot of this genre, Stronghold? So much potential if they made another game like Stronghold in an engine like this.

    Also, want this badly.

I love that there are entire genres, mostly on the PC, which are just awesome manifestations of what was going on up in my imagination all those days I spent in the sandbox as a kid.

The third screenshot looks pretty angle-y.

Yeah duder, I loved me some stronghold. How can a game where you build a castle however you want, put men anywhere you want on the walls, and manage your economy within your castle walls WHILE defending against waves of attackers not be awesome?

    Oh.

Damnit every stronghold game after Crusader!

I hate that I've always had to go to unofficial sites to update my laptop video card drivers.

I've been gaming on a laptop for years now. IT IS viable. C'mon guys.
