So I have a problem. The game crashes when I try to load saves. If I put it into compatibility mode, I cannot see my saves. I am using the most recent fan patch. Is there a way I can resolve this?

You guys weren't kidding, the last quarter/third of this game is combat, just combat.

The fact that the last bits of the game are all combat stands out more given that the first half of the game is so clever.

What you mean there are no air ducts in LaCroix Tower to be sneaky through?!

The combat isnt TOO bad at least. I like the twirly slashy of melee.

I don't like firearms though, but that might be because i have no points in the skill.

You can sneak almost the entire LaCroix tower; it's just there's no easy air duct routes, and sometimes you have to get your hands dirty with a few stealth kills.

Interested in this, since for whatever reason I've been into Troika's buggy games lately like Arcanum.

20 bucks is too high for me, though, considering my backlog and also considering how cheap I've been getting games lately. Like 5 dollars and under. Steam and GoG have spoiled me. I'll wait for a sale.

Yeah, good luck with that. Vampire hasn't been on sale on Steam since like Halloween three years ago. Occasionally goes on sale at D2D, for whatever reason. Maybe this year's presumed summer sale will rectify that, but don't get your hopes up. Keep an eye on D2D for either a direct sale or a worthwhile coupon code.

Absolutely one of the best games ever though.

I snuck through all the endgame with my gangrel so no obsufucate. It is pretty hilarious.
You still trigger all the scripts, so in the Kuei-Jin place people cut through the paper doors and then stand there. At one point in Ventrue towers a swat team bursts through the glass ceiling and then just kinda hangs out. LaCroix even talks to you at one point but still can't see you.
I also hope this game goes on sale soon because I lost one of the C.Ds and have been itching to replay it.

D2D had a sale for $10 when I bumped the thread. :P So it happens pretty often there.

So I keep wanting to get into this game, and I love the talky bits to death, but I keep bouncing off about the time I have to start killing things. What's the best combat spec to get through the game so I don't have to pay too much attention to the terrible fighting? Unarmed seems pretty great, but I could be wrong.

Celerity is the power Jesus used when he crushed the Ottoman Empire using only a plank of wood with a nail in as a weapon.

Celerity is pretty much the best for any class. So far I've only played melee classes so I haven't needed anything besides that and Blood Buff.

Also early points into Wits. Its one of the best skills since it increases defence and hacking. Put some points into melee weapons and use blood buff in any serious combat situation. You don't really need to invest many points into the physical stats because of bloodbuff, especially once you get the artifact that doubles its duration.

Both Tremere and Malkavian have skills that just instantly kill humans.

    Best at melee - Brujah

    Best at unarmed - Gangrel

    Best at firearms - Toreador

Ventrue are tough - between Fortitude and Presence, things won't hurt you much, and Dominate has great in-and-out-of-combat uses.

Tremere are fragile, but THAUMATURGY. Also, Auspex helps them with gunplay to some degree.

Malkavians are mental. Good stealth thanks to Obfuscate, Auspex again helps with guns, Dementation is weird and amazing.

Nosferatu are great for melee-stealth builds thanks to Obfuscate and Potence. Animalism is a weird discipline that has some bizarre powers in it.

I think that's a fair and brief evaluation of each clan, for first-time players. Malkavian and Nosferatu are probably best for a second time through, as the game's very different for them. Tremere too, to some degree.

I just did a Tremere play through and I never got a new haven. I was running the Plus Patch so I'm not sure if that's the issue.

I didn't get the body armor from my ghoul either.

However, running around in a body sheath made of blood and making people's blood boil until they explode was worth it.

Probably not. You need to suck up to Strauss and complete his two quests (Plaguebearer and Gargoyle) to his liking.

The prince gives a haven to anyone who doesn't piss him off, beats the elizabeth dane without alerts and isn't going to get a haven from somewhere else.

Yeah, I blew my chance at a nice pad with my Malk because I didn't pick all the suck up options. I completely forgot about needing to do that until after the Dane, which is a shame because I cleared it without anyone knowing I was ever there.

I don't think it matters if people see you on the Dane, just that you don't kill anyone. In my last playthrough my Toreador got caught on the way out. I just hit celerity and made a break for it. Still got the haven.
