Ok, so I was delivering pizzas to some duders house and he was playing some JRPG on his big ass TV and it looked interesting.

I'm hoping someone can name it for me.

It looked this gen, since it was widescreen and HD and all that. All I saw of the battle had a character appear to put a gun to his head (maybe not?) and then a big white dragon was summoned above his head.

The dude closed the door at this point so that's all I've got. :(

    Persona 3 I believe, I've never played any but the gun to the head is a dead(hehe) give away.

    The more I hear about Persona 3, the more difficult it is for me to wait for the PS2 I ordered on Ebay to show up.

    It isn't HD graphics or native widescreen, but no other game involves suicidal pantomiming to summon demons to fight for you, so yeah, it was Persona 3, but running in the wrong aspect ratio.

    I play it with component cables on my HD television and it looks good enough.

    most of that was kinda meh, but I did chuckle when he shot himself instead of trying to explain it anymore.

    I want to play persona 3, but I lack a PS2 and don't really fancy JRPGs.

    But after watching HAWP play Persona 3, I want to. Guns to the head makes everything better.

    Do they make devices that'll upscale the output of a PS2 to 1080p? I might need to get one if it looks shitty on my 1080p monitor (which it almost certainly will).

    Yes, they make convertor boxes (transcoders) that will take any input resolution and do the upscaling and output to 1080p. Usually decent transcoders are like a hundred bucks or more I think. I'm not a huge A/V aficianado so you'll either have to research good transcoders or make a thread in the Moe's Tech Tavern for some good help.
