I have some conservative friends. As far as I can tell, they really really just want to see the train drive right off the tracks.
And it never occurs to them that they are actually on the train.
Ooh, I think they know. They just see Obama as our Keanu Reeves. The actor who could turn around this whole liberal vs. conservative narrative that our country has been brewing. Up to this point, they've associated so many negative things to being a liberal. It's all unwinding, and fast. They're really rolling the dice on all of this, because if the country comes out a whole lot better because of what this administration does, they all look like huge idiots. However, if their sabotage can work, then they will seem justified (to ... morons).

Otherland, by Tad Williams, is being made into an MMO slated for 2010, by a German developer that hasn't had a hit, ever?

This is going to crash and burn so horribly.
I vaguely recall a western mmo out of korea that sounded interesting in theory, but like a lot of mmo ideas I think it was just vaporware, so maybe thats what this is?
MMO's are not an easy market to get into I don't see why people try.

My next D&D character is going to be a Druid that takes the form of a "chicken that is not a chicken". His name will be Rand.
I think i just bursted a blood vessel trying to hate you to death
did it work?
Wait... I feel something. It may be working.
Nope, just gas. Sorry, nexus.
Wait, you can feel? I always though you were some kind of holdover cold war automaton warbot.
I am, but I have a high-quality soul fashioned from the souls of millions of gulag prisoners. This Soul of the People allows me to feel quite intensely for the plight of the working class!
Never seen troll or troll 2, have no inclination to watch them.
The Leprechaun films are far superior
Oh god I have seen a couple of those, terrible. Though I have to support Warwick Davis.
Why? He's actually a pretty sad individual. You know he threw a fit and threatened to sue Peter Jackson and Newline because they didn't use dwarves for the hobbits?

Apparently it's been in the works since 2008 and is being based on the Unreal Engine 3 and still slated for 2010, so I don't think it's vapourware. Tad himself is apparently working with the project and has it featured on his blog.
Granted, any press about it is still from 2008 which probably isn't a good sign.
Yeah, MMOs are high risk high reward. I don't even want to know how much money WoW has made Blizzard, on the other hand, the amount of money AoC lost has to be pretty huge as well.
I think EvE Online is one of the most profitable businesses in country it is based out of, which is either Iceland or Greenland, I can't remember which.

Oh also preach, I am suing you. Your quote is libelous.

I have never heard of this thing. What is it?
It sounds, scarily, like it's taking a bit from Second Life at least in centering it around the social aspects of MMO. They're really thin on details of combat, questing, or really what you're supposed to do in the game. You get a piece of real estate in the virtual world, and there are quests, and quests you can give other players, and changing environments, but that's basically it for information.

Most successful games don't keep making money five years down the line.
Yeah but MMO's have massive start up costs with a continued cost down the line. And with the WoW juggernaut if you aren't a big enough company to eat those initials you'll never see 5 years of revenue.
They seem like a hell of a lot of risk in a very well entrenched market.

I just Wiki'd it and got this gem in the synopsis:

Nah, I got eight hours of sleep and only drank one beer before I went to bed. I must have just slept weird.
Or it could be the fact that I now have breasts and a vagina.
Most successful games don't keep making money five years down the line.
that would be so awesome but it's probably not true

Are you coming to PAX? :winky:
tits or gtfo
Wow. Maybe I'm falling behind the news... But this shit is ridiculous.
I think EvE Online is one of the most profitable businesses in country it is based out of, which is either Iceland or Greenland, I can't remember which.
I'd be down with being a girl, as long as I was pretty.
Also, I wish I was going to PAX. But I lack the funds.
and I ordered two cheeseburgers
I couldn't finish them, they were so foul
Iceland, I believe.
Of course we do, Red Coat.
