If anyone saw us playing our Game Boys outside of PAX last year (musically), prepare to once again be confused, or preferably entertained! On the first day of PAX '09 at 6pm, I Fighter X, Circles, and McFiredrill will once again bring to you some Seattle chiptune busking. Last year was really fun, and we hope this year will be even better. If you search "Lo-Tek Resistance" on YouTube, you can see some footage of what it was like during/at PAX '08. So after enjoying the expo, come join in on the chiptune fun
Basically this is a free impromptu chiptune concert directly outside of the convention center.
I'm curious as to how this is done. Are you actually manipulating a real Game Boy game to produce the sounds, or do you have some kind of custom software on the Game Boy itself?

Fighter X: I'm guessing you don't need any equipment any more RE: the email I sent you about a week ago
Arco: As SeanBad said, they probably use a program called LSDJ, although watching them perform, I'd almost say a better guess is Nanoloop. But it essentially is a tracker program that tells the sound chip what to play. I'll have my DMG with a copy on me at all times so should we meet I could probably give you a quick crash course
Anyone else reading this thread: This shit is totally badass, you should really check these guys out and research chiptunes. Some highly talented undiscovered artists in there. AND MOST OF IT IS FREE!!!!!!!!!ONE1!
Wow. I checked out your MySpace, and your music is phenomenal. Can I buy some?
Thanks a lot man I normally don't sell merch at Lo-Tek Resistance events (this will be my 8th one), but since I'm touring the UK for 10 days in late September - I could use some extra cash. I'll be selling demo discs with new songs on them for $4 each.
I'll be there for sure, guys! It just wouldn't be a Seattle trip without seeing you guys play somewhere!
To everyone else - they always put on a highly entertaining show. *Ikea accent* If you miss it, you'll be a sad little creamer. And we wouldn't want that!
alllssssooooo if anyone is interested on september 5th fighter x and circles are playing a rad show not too far from the convention center at lo fi performance gallery with leeni and anamanaguchi.
Ahh you guys are great! The kind words mean a lot, and thank you Pizza for the plug xD!! Anamanaguchi is going to rock! Some of the band members may actually jam with us at Lo-Tek Resistance.
Oh awesome. I'm a major chiptune fan. You guys rocked last year.
JonnyNero: Do you use LSDJ or Nanoloop? I just got Nanoloop recently but haven't had time to play around with it... I have no idea how to use it yet ; ;

I use LSDJ, but I've got another DMG waiting for a Nanoloop cartridge as soon as the funds become available. I might kidnap you from the convention to play around with it a little
After last year's footage was uploaded, I checked out your site and downloaded Giga Trick; one of the coolest pieces of music I have now, heh. If you're going to be doing more of that, then I'll show up for this for sure
Oh wow! I kept seeing this thread and meant to check out the MySpace page, and now I finally have. It's awesome! This has jumped up to the top tier of things I need to see at PAX09.
I've been meaning to ask for the longest time - is there a recording of the remix from this video floating around at all? I've been dying to weave through traffic on my bike while listening to that since last year.
Hey Spira. The red shirt man is Circles, and he made that remix specifically for that event I can ask him to record it and put it online for you
Oh woops, I'd forgotten you were the one in purple. Wee, that'd be awesome! You could PM me a link once it's up, but I'm sure everyone else in the thread would probably be interested too
I WANSNSNT GOING BUT NOW I AM BECAUSE FIRHOUSE IS GAY. No reallly this will be awesome. Bumping for great justice. I hope to see everyone with an account on this forum there.
Heres a video from Lo-tek at sakura-con, prove you are better dancers then them :P
Thanks for signing my CDs! I beg all you chiptuners to come play in Vancouver, BC sometime so I don't have to stick to seeing this stuff live once a year!
Hey, what's going on folks! It was wicked getting to play that song with you guys! I was the first (?) of the two (?) random people that you asked to play. I've got a video on my cam, but I have to wait till I return home to upload it.
Like I said, if you ever come to Toronto, I've got a venue that will certainly accomadate you. Plus I know PDF Format and Dead Beat Blast and they'd love to do a show with you guys, I'm sure. So feel free to PM me or something and I'll give you my email or something.
I stopped by friday evening to listen to all of you play and it was just as awesome as I'd hoped. I'm definitely going to research this music some more; hopefully I can find some performances in Chicago

I'm listening to the CD I got from you, Fighter-X, and it's awesome stuff. PAX really needs to work with you guys and get you inside performing somewhere next year; more people need to be exposed to the awesome. Perhaps during some of the pre-show queuing? You guys wouldn't mind playing in front of a few thousand people instead of a few dozen, right?
Definitely. You guys are good enough to be on stage somewhere in PAX, for sure. I'd get in touch with the organizers, show them the videos, tell them you've been doing it for 2+ years in front of PAX, and see where it goes.
I incorporated your show into my PAX schedule, and I didn't do that for almost anything on the official schedule. What does that say?

Arco, It's software that runs on the Game Boy itself, a program called LSDJ.
