These will probably be the last comics I buy for the next 14 months, so I wish this week was stronger. Still, Y should be good, and the Civil War tie-ins will be interesting. I'm giving Aquaman another shot, even though I know it will suck.

Romero Zombie, do yourself a favor and pick up New Avengers Illuminati. It was non-stop badassery from cover to cover.

7 Brothers and Criminal were also quite good.

You should have picked up "Legends in Exile" and "Animal Farm" the first two in the series. I suggest getting the first two because the arc in the first is kind of booring compared to the second, but the first still gives you a good introduction to the characters.

I got the trade today too, it's good but you'll kinda be spoiling things for yourself if you go back and pick up the previous trades. Just my 2c though. I hope you enjoy it.

That would make sense. They didn't have the first two trades at my shop though. That and I am also a very impulsive buyer...I don't really think things through when I make a purchase...especially with comics.

Once I have some more cash on hand I will probably pick them up off of amazon or something.

Yeah, New Avengers pissed me the fuck off because it was all filler - but it looked really purdy. Plus it had Strange, who's my favorite character at the moment.

Guys, Criminal. If you're not reading it, that's a crime. The only excuse I can think of for not picking this up is poorness. :P

After Casualties of War, I wish Cap and Tony would hug it out. I'm glad they managed to present strong points for both sides instead of encouraging us to sympathize with one by making the other seem crazy.

    Kingdom Come did it better.

52- Eh, alright I guess. The splashpage showing how everyone spent their Christmas Eve was kind of neat, and the Question/Renee scene was pretty good, if only for the callbacks to the O'Neil stuff. Other than that though, I thought it was kind of mediocre. The art seemed to be a lower quality than normal this week, especially in the Luthor scenes. B- Here's something I'm wodner though. Why is Amanda Waller not dead? Her entire career has consisted of one fuck up after another, she's pissed off numerous psychopaths, and her only purpose in life seems to be being the most ignorant, hateful person on the planet. God, I want her to die so much.

Aquaman- Part 2/2 of the Orin/King Shark flashback tale. It wrapped up in a nice, interesting little way, introduced two cool new characters that will probably never be seen again, Nenomi and Ptero, and had some pretty nice art courtesy of Karl Kesel. Still, I don't know that there was much of a point to it. It seems like, at this point in the relaunch, Busiek should still be developing Arthur, as he's still basically just another whiny kid taking on a heroic legacy, with occassional moments of badassery. Still, it was good for what it was. B+

Civil War Front Line- Each of the stories have pretty much slowed to a crawl, with the exception of Speedball's. I'll keep reading it to see how he develops, but honestly, that's all that still has me interested here. C+

Cable and Deadpool- A cool solo Deadpool story that delves into his past a bit as he's confronted by ghosts from his past, in a very literal sense. Reilly Brown's art isn't bad, and he depicts maskless Deadpool with a very fun, cartoonishly maniacal style, but the way he renders faces with weird, gigantic doe eyes doesn't always look right. All in all, a decent little story that should propel Deadpool into some interesting adventures in the coming months. Hopefully, after it's all over he'll emerge as a slightly more nuanced character. B+ Also, next month Pool fights Taskmaster, which will hopefully be awesome. There's also an excellent chance Tasky's UDON redesign, and the abandonment of it, will be addressed.

Shadowpact- A very solid issue that put the spotlight on Ragman, delving into his past, as well as the origins of his powers, granting him a better understanding of his role in the universe. Basically, just a fun little solo story. My only problem with this title is that it seems to have absolutely no forward momentum. It's just dragging its feet in the worst way, making virtually no advancement in the plot. For a new series that's only on its 8th issue, that's a bad thing. Still, this issue did have one thing going for it; a very good pencilled by the name of Shawn McManus. Though I've never heard of this guy, he really impressed me with his pencils on this issue. They've got kind of a twisted, cartoony look to them. My only gripe is that he draws necks really long sometimes, and isn't very consistent in quality. Still, overall a good issue. B+

Secret Six- A mediocre finish to a mediocre mini. The entire pace of the issue was off, with things just sort of clunking along awkwardly. The characterization's pretty good all around, though Catman and Vandal Savage some off a little more buffoonish than they should. Here's my biggest complaint though: Brad Walker is a shitty artist, and/or Jimmy Palmiotti was stretched too thin and did a shitty job on the inks. Anatomy and composition is all over the place, there's virtually no variation in line weight, and in the end, it all just amounts to a shitty product. To go from Dale Eaglesham to this is just horrible. C I hope Simone's next outing with these characters is much better, because they're all awesome characters, and Simone's proven she can write them well, but this was just terrible.

Actually, I just dug up this interview with some samples of Brad Walker's previous pages, and I have to say, it looks like either Palmiotti or Walker was definitely slacking off a bit.

Things I didn't buy but wanted to: Birds of prey, since my shop sold out of it, She-Hulk, since I forgot, and Walk In, since I wanted to wait and hear some reviews.

So, did anybody get Walk In? It's one of Virgin Comics' new offerings, and I have to say, it looked pretty awesome in the previews, but I needed to pick up the Invincible character guidebook, and opted to grab that instead.

Well, yeah. I really like how compelling David's made both Mysterio and Vulture in back-to-back story arcs.

It's a Christmas issue, but that's really the only thing special about it. It's worth the extra cash though.

    ...what the hell?

Why don't I recognize that panel?

EDIT: Because it's not from Kingdom Come, for starters. That's clearly Ross' artwork-- what's it from?

It's from the Epilogue, which was only present in the trade.

...or that. I have the original prestige format issues. I have never bought any trade edition, a curious omission considering how much I love the series.

It's out in Absolute now. You know if you feel like spending $75.

There's actually a pretty decent chance I'll be getting it for Christmas.
