college is pretty cool, especially because the teachers no longer try to carry you through it if you're struggling
I mean, if you need help, they'll help you, but college is optional and they won't graduate students that are obviously not trying, like how they do in high school

What spring does with the cherry trees.

That's becoming less true in most schools.
Government funding is based largely on retainment, and even private schools are better able to attract donations and endowments if they have higher retention rates. As budgets get tighter, the adminastration is then encouraged to enact policies and otherwise encourage retention, leading to a lot more hand-holding than should be strictly necessary, and even lax grading practices and unearned credit.
I am taking Salsa, Soca and Reggae, which is basically a Caribbean music class with a heavy focus on Caribbean culture and it is awesome and the professor is the head of the Jazz department here and he is totally awesome and plays trombone throughout NYC, jazz, salsa, what have you...
And he is a great lecturer too. He classifies himself as an ethnomusicologist. And his book about his experiences with Latin music in NYC is fantastic.
Also I'm an Applied Math major so this is way out of my normal range of classes.
The first thing in the first class that he did was, without saying a word, put on Peter Tosh's "Legalize It"
And wrote on the board that this is a music class, in this class we listen to music, not talk over it, and then let the whole song play
And then we talked about the song and why it wasn't in the standard Music Hum (short for the core music class all the lib arts people have to take) curriculum, and its significance and then about the different aspects of the song itself
and then about Caribbean music in general and its global importance and whatnot
So guys who're in/have gone to grad school. I'm looking at applications for USC's grad program and it looks like they need a general GRE. Anyone done this?
Yeah. It's honestly not that different from the SAT in question type, subject matter, and methods of preparation. Be aware that there is a writing portion to the GRE as well.
College is so awesome. Especially when only one of your classes is not music related. Barely any homework at all. I have to write a 2 page paper for that class which is still pretty meager. So great. Except I am kinda down for some reason right now. But that's completely beside the point.

you posited college is awesome
yet you aren't feeling awesome
I dont think its beside the point at all
Just one of those days man. I have no idea what is bringing me down. Possibly because I've been pretty tired? We lost our football game yesterday by a pretty narrow margin but performing in the marching band was incredible and exhausting. The rest of the night was great too. In fact, this is the only time since I've been here that I've felt negative.
What really bothers me is how uneven the unit distribution is. Like some classes that are worth 3 units I could show up for the lecture alone and maybe study a bit for the test and get an A while other require hours of writing each week. My math class is worth 5 units and it's way less time consuming than my english class that's worth 3.
I'm sure it's not a big deal for most of you since you just take what you have to take but the GI bill pays me by the unit and I hate blowing 1-2 hours a day on homework for a 3 unit class.
Mondays are so dang busy. Classes at 8, 9-3, 6-7:30 and I usually practice between 3 and 6 but I had to do laundry so I'm not getting my two hours daily. I have lessons tomorrow too so I need to have more practice on Mondays but I can barely get it in.

and I'd rather continue along without a lightbulb popping up above my head

believe it or not, it doesn't
at least not directly.
it's from one of Pony's stories when he was high on mushrooms, and thought there was a raccoon following him around
I can only assume this was a result of having played AC, so yes and no

I will figure these things out. My dad sent a package down, so I will see how they handle all of that stuff when it gets here

I feel miserable

What was yours about?
I didn't expect a hundred because I don't actually think that's how overdosing works, but whatever, my professor sure didn't know
You say that, but there you are, attending college
What the fuck are you doing all-nighters for now? You're in for a world of hurt when shit actually starts up real like.
