The short games like that are the exception, not the rule. most games are 1h+ plus the fun in that game isnt in the 1v1 matches. its the 4v4 huge world maps that do take 2hours to play.

I highly doubt we will even get licenses for supreme commander for the freeplay machines. Most RTS games dont cater well to the "sit down and play for 30-45min" type of scenarios so they wont really be the bulk of games we get on there. The tourney RTS games should be on there though so that will have to suffice.

If you want to play supcom, haul your computer to BYOC. Im sure you will find lots of people to play with.

How are you guys staffed enforcer wise, for the PC room, anyways? Overly? Need more?

I was going to apply this year to be an enforcer, but a few friends have decided they want to go to PAX, so I'm gonna wait.

I was just curious, so I'd know what to expect next year.

Staffing individual departments is generally not done until PAX in general has all the enforcers it needs (or at least will get), but I wouldn't recommend counting on getting assigned to the pc area.

Even if by some small chance you do, you would have to deal with me ;)

But yeah, if you apply don't count on getting assigned to your preferred area.

I don't suppose actually being technically proficient in dealing with computers/networking has any determination, does it? ;)

If I applied, you might have to deal with me. but Im not sure you would or wouldn't like that. They would likely put me in some sort of CPR/firstaid group anyhow (if there is such a thing) Given my few hundreds of hours(probably more actually) working firstaid at tons of events.

I'd rather be mucking about in the lan/console freeplay area. working and/or helping.

Since I placed in the UT2K4 tourney last year (Partly through skillz, more partly through half the field wandering out of the room) I would like to stand on a chair and filibuster for that being re-included again this year. I have a minor piece of nerd PRIDE to defend, daggummit.

Speaking of that, I'm the guy who placed like 3rd or 4th and then hung around the PC room blankly for a half hour in the mass hysteria surrounding the start of another tournament and the room having a horrific shortage of enforcers and things getting gummed up. Thank you all for not getting testy at me just kind of standing near the door with a blank look on my face until I was handed points and shooed out!

On another note, I would also like to campaign heavily for Dystopia again this year. I'm still not sure what the technical deal was that led to it being not at last year's PAX (Steam Steam LOL?), but I hope it can be fixed so I can get my Stealth on and kill people. And by people I mean EvilBadman. Also, hooray Games of the Hour. I have no shame, as measured by doctors with lab coats. This could either be awesome or horrific, depending on the minigame I go up for.

Ah, thank you for reminding me, I had forgotten about that.

Last year our Steam licenses were just for CSS and DoD :S, whereas Dystopia requires a HL2 license as well. That was why we didn't have it last year. It wasn't something that occured to us until it was too late. =(

If this is something that can be fixed (it's a bit of a process to get all these game licenses), I'll see that it is. Feel free to bug me about this as the event gets closer, too.

    Dave:

If we are going to open up for hl2 mods you need licences for all these games

    CS:S, HL2:DM, HL2

Most mods require all 3 of those to be installed.

Heck, projectors are generally smaller than a bag of swag or a big bag of fast food.

I don't see what the problem with bringing one is, unless it breaks some kind of regulation, and it's not taking up needless space.

    This is all just speculation.

The size of the projector itself isn't the problem. You let one guy use his and then by the end of the weekend everyone else that has one wants to use it, and when you can only let a few people use one but have like 15 or so people show up with projectors...

    The problems.

Power consumption, the light is bothersome to other attendees in a dark room, space issues. Plus im sure it will violate some kind of firecode.

Bottom line is no personal projectors. Most Lan parties dont allow this anyway.

If the decision had to be made right now, we'd go with BF2, but we're all sort of crossing our fingers for Quake Wars. The final call probably won't be made until there's a final verdict on if that is released on time.

That's simply the best PA quote ever. 'Mean Bean Machine' is both descriptive, and laden with gamer cred.

we'll leave that to the classic console night to decide!

btw, wanna talk about great quotes? here's a few

    tycho: "I invented the hippo!"

div: "Look! If I wanted your opinion, I'd give it to ya!"

div: "On a scale of one to ten, I'm soooo drunk!"

gabe: "Baby, why you always gotta make me hit you?"

gabe: "Oh, I'm sorry. Did you want some cranberries?"

plane captain: "I have a ball of heroin about the size of a monkey's fist jammed straight up my asshole."

    gabe: "It's okay, I'm a dentist."

Anyway, point being, don't be too quick to claim something as "the best PA quote ever", because some loser like me is bound to come back and cite half a dozen reasons why you're wrong! Btw, I never noticed before that Tycho doesn't really have many great quotes, even though he's the writer......

This is assuming it turns out to be a cool game and the pax community seems to attach to it. But yea, there definitely will not be both games...at least not as an official tournament.

If you guys love Battlefield and don't want it to go away, definitely speak up and let your voice be heard. Climb to the tallest mountain and shout a shout that would be heard around the world. Or....you know...post. Whichever is easiest. The mountain thing would be pretty cool, though.

I generally feel like most people would like to get away from Battlefield given a suitable replacement. EA has done a lousy job supporting the games, and a great job at releasting quick sequels and expansion packs that have alienated the audience....based on what I've been seeing and hearing, anyway.
