I hold versatility to be a much much greater skill than any one gimmicky style.
I absolutely wholeheartedly agree.
Same, and for an animator it's absolutely vital, but I know quite a few people who wishes they had their own "voice" in a sense. My perspective teacher works a good job with great pay (for an animator), but he's in a bit of a rut because he feels he doesn't have his own style, and doesn't know how to get one.
ugh... I'm afraid this is all the time I have to spend on this right now... (edit: NSFW)
nothing emphasizes a lack of painting skills quite like trying to imitate an artist like wakka and knowing what takes me hours to fail at probably takes him minutes to succeed. Also, fuck that cat :x
That's really very nice monarch. Taking on cake is a challenge and a half.
Thank you. I hope Cake likes it. It very much is a challenge to try your hand at realism... that may not look it but it's a good hour and a half's work. I haven't spent an hour and a half on pencils in years.

You got sum purdy lighting going on in that thar painting, Bacon.
This might be more of an observation with your painting process, but I've seen a lot of your tutorials and crits around here and I understand you block everything while painting in order to separate planes and get the lighting correct. However, I think sometimes this affects the final painting in an adverse way--in this one particularly, the tiger looks kinda uh... blocky? This is just something I've noticed in your paintings, which are always awesome, but usually suffer from this problem. (It's not always noticeable or bad, but it does show)
Here is my entry... guess I kinda gave it away in the pic.
I'm not an artist, so I can't really provide any real critique on what can be improved, but on the other end of the spectrum, I really like this drawing.

I'd probably be frustrated with that too.
I'm sure you'll have fun digging into Bacon's style
Its in the same way I dig into your style you sexy woman man you.
:winky:
You people should be ashamed.
I have a really good idea for one, but I'm not sure if I'll end up doing it or not. We shall see!
Are we still OK to copy an artist if someone else already has?
Sorry to the cat I copied
I don't see why not.
Oh well, I'm betting no one will do the same artist as me. *suspense*
I know right? Especially that kittygamer guy. His is probably the finest example of digital art in this decade.

Ah, I almost missed that -- no need to apologies; very flattered. :P
My shoddy attempt at Cakemikz's excellent realistic pencils.

that head seems small
like a old asian man face
edit: and not to be rude but the tiger feels like a second add on just for the sake of the contest
