I fell into debt a few times but my massive investment into early agriculture made me a mint with every freighter making off with 15-20k every time it left. You just need to make sure you have enough teamsters and a few garages around to move the stuff efficiently. I didn't play around with factories but getting a school up early is a wise investment as well as a church. Anything but tenements doesn't seem to have any decent space though so I just built those and the communists got off my back about people living in shacks.
Its pretty fun though, definately a buy.

Downloaded the demo, played for ten seconds this morning, gonna play through it now
It's beautiful, I love the concept, and I think this might be one of those games that I discover and then it eats my life. I love running it on ultra settings and zooming in on my citizenry. So much detail.

I love this game already
Time to build a beautiful communist nation-state
then, after that, a fat, corrupt, drunk union leader will create a hive for obese turistas and wallow in his own filth
then those motherfuckers from a rival company showed up and incited a strike in all of my farms, demanding a raise from $3/day to $10!
the nerve!
I caved, but I just raised rents at the same time
:whistle:you load sixteen tons, what do you get:whistle:
also the music in this is totally boss
It is my absolute favorite feature of these games.

I have always wanted to play a Tropico game, but every time I think of picking one up I get told how super hard it is and then I'm all well I'll never be good at it then and don't bother buying it

so I'm away from my computer for the week, hadn't had much of a chance to play the demo. Anyone figured out what the little garbage bag that shows up over the farms mean? And, do you need more than one garage to support the initital three farms?

My suspicion is that the black sack meant "empty of product and not producing anything at the moment"
and technically, you do not need any garages to support the farms, but if you do want one your first should be next to the teamster's offices, it seems. They'll leave the office, grab a truck, drive it to the farm, then the dock, then back to the garage next to the teamster's offices. After that, put them next to your big residential areas, as apparently people would rather live in tin-roof shanties than nice residential apartments if it means they have to walk five minutes to work. :?

ok, thanks. And when exactly are you supposed to stop losing money? Because it seemed like my farms were just about to start producing, errm, produce, when I had to stop playing.

it takes a couple months for them to start shipping out, assuming you have some of them set to grow exportable products

My biggest problem is that 10k is not really enough to get yourself off the ground and you can either have a negative balance or starvation and protests
also no tourist buildings in the demo
one tourist came to my island and then sent me a letter saying it was the worst place ever and had no accomadations and they hated me personally

I think my problem was I pretty much waited for the game to tell me what to do, hold my hand a bit longer. I don't think I did anything the game didn't tell me to do. I'll take more initiative when I get back, maybe try to actually dictate stuff every once in a while.

better
less sudden, arbitrary, inexplicable debt & revolutionary foment explosions
also it's real purdy
Because I figure after three or four minutes it's just not going to happen.
about 25 seconds to start a map for the first time and then maybe five once in a while during an autosave
It started out as 2.5 mb/s and it's still zooming along at 1.5
it's the first game that has actually gotten me to kinda-roleplay in a while
Especially if you choose to play as a militarist, so you can personally execute your citizens in the streets. That's learn 'em.
I'm sad the full version won't drop until October 20th, though, since I'll likely be up to my dick in homework by that point.

this is raneados' life since 2002
You don't really need to purchase Tropico 1,
Tropic 2 however, I still play from time to time, because it is fucking awesome.
Can I deport people who don't share the values of the common man?
It is my absolute favorite feature of these games.
that said I'd make a fuckawesome dictator
Play the demo.
Edit: If there is one thing I will miss about Tropico 2, it will be sending pirates out into the Caribbean to do my nefarious bidding.
I think it's probably some weird DirectX features that my card doesn't support, since I had similar things happen with Crysis
(finally, an excuse to get a new video card)
(not that I can afford one)
yes
no, but you can stuff them in prison for the rest of their miserable lives
also
you can have the 5-0 cold blast a motherfucker in broad daylight just for complaining too much
do this while you are giving a speech to the people for maximum effect
The immigration office can be set to "love it or leave it" and that makes anyone who is unhappy just straight get deported / dip
you come to my island
you die on my island
how 2 stay out of debt
i am thinking go commie and pander to the ussr instead of this neutral pussy shit i've been doing
If you pander too much, you'll get invaded by the US. Just saying.
the problem with being a female dictator is: no beards
Something the modding community will have to fix.

no one wants your corn
I built a couple tabacco farms, a couple sugar farms, and then a ranch and enough corn/banana/papaya to feed the people
the food for the people edict is great, too
pfffft
corn
Sugar's the way to go
I understand it's quite valuable in the US right now
also no tourist buildings in the demo
one tourist came to my island and then sent me a letter saying it was the worst place ever and had no accomadations and they hated me personally
I had like 40,000 in a matter of years and was winning elections by a landslide
my secret is to never, ever use food for the people
