DD - Torso long, head small, obliques too bulbous, and he has a small penis.
also, the lines are either really poor, your contrast is way to high on the scanner, or you're pushing the levels/contrast too much.

BRO LET ME GET REAL WITH YOU AND SAY THAT MY FINGERS ARE PREPPED AND HOT LIKE THE SURFACE OF THE SUN TO BRING RADICAL BEATS SO SMOOTH THE SHIT WILL BE MEDICINAL-GRADE TRIPNASTY MAKING ALL BRAINWAVES ROLL ON THE SURFACE OF A BALLS-FEISTY NEURAL RAINBOW CRACKA-LACKIN' YOUR PERCEPTION OF THE HERE-NOW SPACE-TIME SITUATION THAT ALL OF LIFE BE JAMMED UP IN THROUGH THE UNIVERSAL FLOW BEATS
Also maybe the lines are poor because i use a pen instead of pencil, when i use pencil i become too finicky with my drawings, backtrack too much and never get anywhere.
But im not sure i understand what it is you mean by poor lines in the first place lol.
that's...pen? well, look, you didn't know what a torso is, so I don't know how well I'll be able to explain what line quality is. that scan is really messy, it's hard to see the lines, the lines are scratchy/fuzzy and over sharpened, they're very sketchy in places and not refined.
I don't think it's worth learning the figure using a pen. you're not going to get very far. the whole point is being able to erase and lay down soft lines to sketch out the structure and then build off of those.

I was wondering if anyone else uses Cocopotrace (free) for turning raster line art into useable vectors. I just started playing with it because it was recommended by a friend of mine.
Sublimus, yeah, I knew about live trace. I was curious because I've heard people using potrace even though they have Illustrator. Looks like combined with Fontforge and Inkscape it would be good for lettering.

The way you have drawn the legs makes it almost look like it is distributed evenly between both legs. But when you stand contrapposto like that, most of the weight ought to land on one leg.
So, this is definitely WIP. Gonna have color and a background and all, but I was just proud of the figure in it. Been doing tons of anatomy, face and pose study in school and I think it's paying off. No ref, about 2 hours.
I need to work on my 'drawing full people' thing. Because I'm all about the head/neck/torso area, and that's it. Last few posts have been awesome, especially clock eating monster, omg so good.
radar the hands on the chick in the middle are comically oversized.
intentional?
Yes, intentional. And, in fact, the girl is Charis' design. All of the characters are mutants in some way (and there's a lot more behind this than what I'm saying), and she has the specifically unpleasant side effect of having claw hands and feet in addition to her other mutations. Thus, she wears gloves (like garden gloves) that are far too oversized, and shoes about three sizes too big for what her feet might be if they were normal.
And Cheerfulbear, as for the hands, it wasn't my main concern. The poses are inherently boring, because I was sketching designs and rough, rough height plans, which is better served in a static pose than something interesting. They're in a default relaxed-ish position. I promise you I can draw them in other ways if I want to.
bear: the hands should generally be in similar positions when doing character design sheets
you put them in a static relaxed pose for comparative purposes
character sheets are not made for fine art reasons, they're a resource to be used by modelers or animators to refer to.
tam: even so i think moving an arm or leg a little (maybe the arm can go behind her back a bit) would help the pose a lot, but beavo's suggestion is probably what you should look into first, haha
also before i forget:
the start halloween pic based on my favorite monster, the baba yaga
also the most complex picture i've ever committed myself to, so i've tried a new method and shaded in b&w before starting the color, so hopefully i'll get my tones right this time!

FACT: mermaid boobs are rough. like shark skin.
mmmmmm yeah. nice rough merboobs
I've always found it to be sloppy, and if you want vectors, you should start out with that intention, as it will turn out better.
Damn do I hate finishing hair...
Mes- Thought the hair looked really crisp. It actually matches the rest of the line works style, which I usually see it not.
Tam- I think the left eye (her right) could be nudged a little closer to center maybe? Feels a little far over right now.
Here's some quick silly sketches of myself from tossed out sheets of homework.

Pretty nice otherwise, though.
yes, i said CLOCK.
intentional?

could someone please quote me? i would be extra Halloween happy if you do
Okay
What spring does with the cherry trees.

radar: cool then, i like them
some sketches that looked way cleaner before I SWEAR
gonna have to learn how to scan things properly soon, eeeeyup
So I promised Buckwolfe I would work more on this. Like, two years ago?

beavo- you know what, that's probably what it is. I need to give this some dimension.

Also, I am seriously at a loss for poses. Time for research.
Okay, but what about the hand in the WIP?
