Is the focus debate of an issue / topic or discussion thereof? I'm more interested in the latter, because I don't do a good job of "doing my homework" in preparation for the former.
Again, I liken it to an out loud version of our threads. People will give opinions, but being informed will get you much further than being uninformed.
Oh sure. Being informed for a debate takes more effort though and that intimidates me. I'm not sure if anyone has noticed but I usually ask questions or need clarifications on things. It's my style (like, when speaking in actual discussions too).
We should work that angle, I think. Most people don't focus on politics the way we do. Maybe a segment on the important questions and issues the average person is/should be asking/talking about? The average Joe angle, I think you called it earlier.
Even a section on "questions that aren't being asked" would help a lot of people to get a better grip on ideas.
I think that's one of the largest complaints, here, when media etc. debates leave those big gaping holes.

Call it "We're Not Gonna Leave It There."
Well now you're just being mean. :P
As long as no one, ever uses the phrase "grinds my gears" we're golden ;p
I think this is brilliant. I would like to be involved. Research and roundtable discussion or whathaveyou.
Isn't LFFT Speaker's blog?
As I said, I think you'd be ideal for in house contrarian. We almost never agree with you but you stick around and are well researched and usually respectful.

Self-righteousness is incompatible with coalition building.
This is probably the best illustration of my original intent for this project. I feel like we're being under-served and badly served by the more vocal and visible parts of the MSM. This is almost a "who's watching the watchmen" sort of thing. We always hear about the MSM supposedly holding politicians' feet to the fire, but who is holding the MSM's feet to the fire?

I think we need to make a list and start putting people into broad political categories. I think there's the whole spectrum* here.

Yeah, sign me up already ;p I'd love to be involved in "We're Not Gonna Leave it at That".
I know this is supposed to be a liberal podcast and all but if you need some moderate voices or conservative leaning then that's where I'm at.
I guess we can do it like this:
!signup writer/researcher
I can devote a decent amount of time a week to confidently say I can keep up every week. And since I read my RSS feed anyway it won't be too much extra work for me.

I'd like to think that it's just a politics podcast, though in all honesty most of us are at least somewhat left-leaning. This actually makes it more important to have center and right leaning people on the show. We're all here to not just debate and hash out issues, but also to keep each other honest.

Usually.
Though, for the purposes of roundtable or research, I would have no intention of letting loose with disrespectful rant.

I think we could go with a round of name suggestions for the podcast. I'm not exactly hooked on Limed for Truth. This post would be better if I had a suggestion to kick it all off.
I actually like that a lot, much to your dismay. :P It's probably already used somewhere.

Man, if I didn't have papers to write this would be amazing. Though, I suppose I could always lend my hand with research (since I like research), though that too seems to have people covering it. Maybe some international perspective (Canada says hi! \o/).

Don't worry, pretty soon we'll all be comrades of the North American Soviet Nazi Browncoat Socialist Baby-Killing Empire!
Actually, that reminds me. Are we going to go for our usual brand of blunt, expletive and insult laden kind of conversations, or do we want to go for a more professional, palatable sort of tone?
Bluntness is fine, expletives and insults not so much. There's nothing wrong with biting and tough criticism, but we don't want to be calling each other idiots on the podcast because it looks bad.

While there's definitely words worth cutting out of the podcast, I think we should wait to see if cursing is enough of a problem to specifically target words. If "fuck" get muttered once or twice in a single podcast, is it enough to cut out anyway?
And depending on the method of this, if someone does start getting insulting and turns into a prick, they can be booted from the call (Skype).

If the editor is willing, bleeping might be a happy medium.
Just to throw out another segment idea: Out of Context
Basically just talking about an issue that the MSM is completely misinterperting/blowing out of proportion in respect to what we know e.g. "The death panels are coming for grandma!".
Also i'd just like to suggest that if you want to be a speaker, invest in a decent microphone (I think a headset/mic combo is the best personally as then you don't have to worry about feedback through the mic as other people are talking). No need to break the bank on it, but there's a world of difference between "$5 generic mic guy" and "$40 normal sounding headset guy".
And you guys should really convince PantsB and Moniker to get in on this.
Guys, this podcast won't have much circulation outside the PA forum regulars anyway.
Whatever the unspoken limits of good taste are around here are probably good unspoken limits for the podcast. We should make something that makes us feel good and not worry too much about how people who will never hear it will take it.
And on that note, it wouldn't be a bad idea to try to go a bit beyond what is done in the forum, since that's who the audience will be.
Like, is your average PA poster confused about whether a public option means nazi death camps? No.
You need to try to find something that:
1. Is missing from the general information diet presented in the corresponding PA thread
2. Interesting to the audience that posts on that topic
Otherwise, yeah, this will probably crash and burn because you are just producing a crappy knock off of the Daily Show or Air America and it's hard to volunteer your free time for that. Make something valuable to the people who will hear it.

That's what you think. Depending on the quality of this mofo, I'm gonna be linking it in other places. I don't doubt other people posting and lurkers alike will be as well.
Edit - haha, wwtMask, you should try starting a vlog on YouTube! SUPERSTARDOM STARTS HERE!
Guys, once I get my daughter to sleep tonight, I'm going to compile all of the stuff that's been suggested into a big info section on the OP. Please suggest some collaborative tools that we can use for writing and research purposes.
Also, I'm thinking that a 3 minute segment for a featured op-ed would a good thing. They can be pre-recorded and edited into the final podcast.

Google Docs allows multiple people with permission to edit documents. You can make spreadsheets, visual presentations, and text documents with what they have.
I think it would be stupid to put curse words into the podcast. An editor's job is to make information concise, and curse words are never needed. As for any roundtable discussion, anyone who curses is just poor at public speaking or getting too antsy.

So, no matter the context, no cursing says you?
I dunno. I can understand the idea of not allowing rampant cursing. But what I don't understand is no cursing whatsoever. Because then it seems like pandering. And really, who are we going to pander to?

This is nothing about pandering. Tell me, what is the functionality of cursing that is conducive to discourse in a podcast?
Not allowing cursing is just a simple cut and dry rule that removes unnecessary words that basically are derogatory or meaningless.
I guess in situations where the word is used with it's meaning I'd be fine with it, like "Mike and Mary are fucking" as in "Mike and Mary are having sex". Or "This thing is a pile of shit" as in "This thing is a pile of poop". I'd be fine with that. I'm not okay with "This is fucking ridiculous." It's meaningless and wasteful. The curse word is only in there because there is nothing better to say.
Although regardless of the case I think it's just a reflection of poor writing or an inability to express.
No cursing just makes the whole thing simple and easy to have a cleaner cut podcast.
