My mom cheated on my dad 3 times while they were married including with her best friends brother so we moved to the other end of the state because it was a small town and people talked. She also drove drunk with me and my 3 sisters in the car when we were real little, I barely remember telling the cop that of course my mom wasn't drinking from that bottle and of course I'm sure. She then divorced my dad not long after he beat cancer and moved in her new bf right away who wasn't a bad guy and my sisters and I got to like him. So then this March my dad gets diagnosed for lung cancer and my mom decides to divorce my stepdad overnight and moves in with her new bf (one of the guys she cheated on my dad with) the same day I found out about my dad's cancer.

After my dad passes away I have to deal with my older half sister who is a fucking dumb, cheap, greedy, manipulative whore and she keeps fucking calling about what she gets from my dad's estate while I'm trying to make arrangements for his cremation, the service, make sure my sisters still have health insurance and apply to be the estate executor. Meanwhile this bitch couldn't be arsed to call my dad after finding out about his cancer being back, or calling after he had surgery to remove since she couldn't be bothered to visit and then doesn't get in touch with him in the two weeks after the surgery before he died. So fuck her.

Yea, aside from my two kid sisters I don't care much for what's left of my living family. I love my mother but god does she piss me off.

You should trade crazy sister stories with Defender.

VOC I remember that story. That is a terrible story.

I hope your older sister is getting a whole lotta nothing from that estate.

She's getting her fair share but maybe it is taking a lil longer than it should because hey I'm a busy girl and can't rush all the paperwork through and my two sisters and I don't need money right now unlike her so it's all good. ;) One day karma will bite her in the ass hard. Granted she's married to a fat, underemployed loser so it kind of already has.

My great-grandfather died because he didn't desert after the war was basically over. Instead, he put up resistance against the invading French troops. I really hope he wasn't one of these guys who went around shooting civilians because they removed Nazi flags or put up French ones. It's shameful.

Chemos a bitch, it's worse than the radiation I think even. My dad hated the chemo, we had to force him to finish it up. it made him so sick but in the end it got rid of the throat cancer even though he was supposed to die from it.

This is why Kantankeris's family rocks. There's like 30 some odd people at Thanksgiving every year. This is his mom's family, and not the whole family. It's wacky but I love it. I like his dad's family more though, they're a big, loud, wild, drunk Italian family. I love it. I don't think I've been sober at a gathering of them yet, but neither are they so it's all good.

I like most of my family. My mum I adore because she practically raised me by herself with help from my older sister who I also love heaps. Without either of them I'd be for a complete loss, and right now it sucks that my sis is all the way over in London. However she's coming back for Christmas so that'll be great.

My dad though I loathe. He cheated on my mum after about 15 years of marriage, lied to her about it, and when she did discover the affair and understandably got mad at him he tried to commit her under the grounds that she was "unstable." He then continuously denied that he was in the wrong, even after he cheated on the woman he first had an affair with. I also found out just a bit earlier from now that because of his horrible attitude and actions as a husband and father, my mum got an abortion for what could've been my younger brother/sister just before they split up.

Mainly because of this I love my step-father. Like any other new parent it took me a while to get used to him, but all in all he's great. He's kind, well-meaning, a bit old fashioned and a little slow on the uptake but he cares and he knows what's right and wrong. He also taught me how to make proper coffee, gives me job advice and also helps me learn how to use tools around the house.

I also hate my older brother. He's a borish, insensitive, arrogant, petulant little bitch who despite being 29 going onto 30 in a couple of months, is now living with me and my parents due to being fired, having no money and now running into trouble with his marriage which he constantly screws up. He's one of those dickheads who always has to be right, and I mean always. If you disagree with him in any matter he'll yell and whine, then if you've proved him undeniably wrong in any case he'll flippantly brush you off and call you "annoying" or "stupid" or "gay".

A perfect example of his distorted logic is when we went out running once. I'm in decent shape but due to his chronic smoking and drinking he's a mess. So after we got back he complained about how his muscles are sore and I told him to stretch for a bit, seeing as he didn't before we left. He then says he hates stretching, but carries on whining for an entire day and a half about his aching joints. I keep telling him to stretch but he continues on about how he doesn't like it, so therefore he shouldn't have to do it even if it helps.

He's also a perfect example of the worst room-mate. Doesn't put his dishes in the sink, doesn't flush the toilet, leaves the bathroom in a mess, constantly takes money, stays up all-night on the phone or playing Guitar Hero on full volume and ever since he moved in our water bill has doubled. Doubled. He uses the equivalent amount of water, a family of three uses. Goddamnit. He's currently trying to get a business law degree which will help, but then he uses that as a crutch. Whenever we ask him to help around the house he immediately screams "I have a law degree I have to finish! Fucking hell!" Along with making my mother cry as much as my biological dad did, even on New Year's Eve, I just hate the fucker. Honestly if he died tomorrow I would not give a shit.

The rest of my family is great, however. Supportive and caring in all respects. Christmas couldn't come sooner.

On a more related note, I grew up as the first child born to the generation before me, so all of my myriad aunts and uncles and great-whatevers were divided into two categories. Either loathing me for disapproval of my father (he was from a poor family) or placing all of their future hopes at wealth on me and the promise for intellect and greatness I showed while growing up.

These greedy relatives then spawned their own children who looked up to me as the oldest of the cousins, but I wanted little to do with them due to the significant age difference. There were more a bother than anything else. Always prodding and pleading, play with us play with us. A nuisance.

Now I haven't seen any of my extended family in near on a decade and guess who's showing up for Thanksgiving?

Extended family is usually better than you expect them to be.

I went to a reunion once with some people i'll probably never see again and he was deep frying a turkey by holding it in the deep fryer

He held it with one hand for a few seconds and was like ow

Then he used the other hand for a few seconds and he went ow

Switched back to the other hand and my dad was like "you know you could like, use a glove or something"

And he's like "Yeah." keeps doing it the way he's doing it.

my extended family has been on wifeswap twice as a result of their extreme whateverness.

    http://realityrollcall.com/index.php/2009/02/06/the-jones-meet-the-martinsons-on-wife-swap/
The free-spirited Martinson family from California choose to go against the grain when it comes to educating their children. Instead of public schools, Mom Heather (39) “fun-schools” her children using amusement parks and a homemade time machine. She encourages her three boys, Nick (18), Riley (10) and Harrison (7), to question everything, including the theory of gravity. Self-employed, aspiring author Dad Lee (50) shares Heather’s perspectives and feels that schools are “socialist, anti-family rat holes.” Both parents pride themselves in the chaotic environment they have created in their home; they feel less structure gives kids higher self-esteem. As a result, the boys have no chores or responsibilities. Without any restrictions on their appearance, they often choose to wear mismatched outfits, but it’s all in the name of self expression.

Meanwhile, the Jones family from Colorado are the ideal image of time management and structure. Speech pathologist and former beauty queen Mom Kerry (46) believes formal education is the key to success and devotes her time to handling daughters Krista (17) and Brooke’s (14) jam-packed schedule. As dancers, they spend 4-5 hours a night practicing while Kerry looks on. Both girls are expected to bring home A’s and B’s, even if it means staying up late to complete their homework. With the girls constantly on the go, Police Lieutenant Dad Mark (46) spends most nights eating dinner alone. The little free time the girls have to spend with their father usually turns into Mark’ patrolling and scolding them. He feels rules, chores and organization are necessary to keep the girls out of trouble.

I guess I have a small family, though it's not so much that there is a limited amount of people as it is that there's a vast emotional distance that prevents us from ever considering a gathering. Rather than celebrating Thanksgiving and Christmas with people I'm related to, my dad used to take me to his friends' house for the holidays so we could celebrate with his family. I'd watch other people's kids get loads of gifts while I usually got a videogame or something from my dad. I wasn't really bothered by it at the time, but in retrospect I should have considered it a disappointing and even humiliating experience.

Now I'm estranged from my dad and only visit my mother and step-father for the holidays. They put up a tree for Christmas, but apart from that there's no gathering or semblance of tradition, or even celebration for that matter. I usually just get a gift in the form of a check from them. I don't get them anything myself for reasons I don't fully understand. I also spend a lot of the time at their house feeling guilty because I feel like kind of a disappointment to them. The rest of the time we usually watch movies or something.

My only contact with other family members, none of whom I've ever said more than a few sentences to, is a few greeting cards with no sentiments or markings within, save their signatures.
