HOW DO I GIVE GIFTS
You give them from the Inventory screen when the character is in your party (so you can't in camp since you aren't in a party).
Inventory for the character you want to give to, and then it's the same as using an item.

You can talk to them in camp to find out stuff about them, but yeah... you can only give gifts on the road.
