[Music] Recommend Me: Epic Metal

So I've recently gotten into listening to Epic Metal, especially because it helps me get in the mood to prepare for the D&D game I'm running.

Here's what I've listened to so far:

-Hammerfall
-Dragonland

Can anyone recommend any other awesome music along these lines?

Protest The Hero and Stormwarrior would be my two suggestions.

Also, the proper term you're looking for it "power metal". Go onto Last.FM and see what comes up. Most of it sounds the same, anyway.

Check out their Secret of the Runes album; every track deals with a different world in norse mythology and is likened after it. So the beat for Schwarzalbenheim sounds slightly like the beating of hammers in a forge while Muspelheim sounds like a fire that suddenly flares and then burns down. Excellent for D&D.

Some people call it epic power metal. Those people deserve a smack on the nose with a rolled up newspaper.

Also, you'd probably totally dig Blind Guardian and Iced Earth.

I've got to put in my usual plug for Jag Panzer here. Several of their albums have Chris Broderick on guitar (lead guitar on Megadeth's newest album) and he's and absolutely amazing musician.

I have noticed that no one else ever mentions them in any metal thread. Does everyone hate them or are they just not well known?

I'm disappointed that no one has mentioned Helloween yet, considering they're one of the earliest power metal bands. Primal Fear is another great band that hasn't been mentioned yet. Also, while they aren't strictly power metal, some New Wave Of British Heavy Metal Bands, particularly Judas Priest and Iron Maiden, were notable influences on power metal and should be along the lines of what you're looking for.
