I just read Tokyo Vice. Good book. Had a big part about Kabukicho, the sex district in Tokyo. lots of... unsettling stuff there. Apparently japanese do not understand why Americans are not fascinated by tentacle porn. It just completely befuddled them.

that guy's interview on the daily show was awesome
the Japanese "porn-laws" are crazy. They can show pretty much anything they want in public, as long as the actual sex organs are censored.
McCly on

there's a part in the book where the author gets toured around the place by a cop, and they go to one of the resident bars. As they are talking, one of the waitresses comes up, greets them, gives them their menus, and then pops one of her breasts out and offers it to the cop. The cop begins suckling the breast, while still talking to the guy and ordering his drink. Apparently, this is normal conduct over there.
Man Smuggles Large Quantity Of Drugs Into Country Known For Punishing Drug Smuggling With The Death Penalty And Is Executed In Shock Ruling. Family claim "he's mental or something, it's not his fault!" in predictable whine

Man I dunno, "Polish drug dealers convinced him he'd be a Chinese pop star" is not like, standard excuse fare. Even if its not true I should hardly call it predictable.
I always wondered why, if you were smuggling drugs, you would choose to do it in a country with the death penalty for it or life imprisonment in a horrible foreign jail. It just seems stupid(er). I guess they get danger money for it or something.
Or they're the type of people who agree to smuggle drugs in the first place ie: none too clever.
But still, maybe start with some places with super lenient drug trafficking sentences and work your way up to the death penalty countries when you have the hang of it or something.
the reason this is a story isn't because he's a smuggler, it's because there is a fair amount of evidence that he's mentally ill and thus shouldn't be entirely held accountable for his actions
executing mentally ill people is wrong and fucked up

It's a good thing that doesn't happen in the United States! Those crazy Chinese...
According to the Chinese Government, insufficient evidence was given that the man had any mental problems. I'm sure his family claim he does, they'd say anything to prevent him being executed. It's their job to prove it.
yeah there are a lot of things that should've made this an obviously poor choice in his mind
it's almost as if he lacked the capability to rationally consider the consequences
naw, he wast just a drug smuggler, they aren't people
sure they're people
but they're law-breaking people
breaking a law that gets you executed
i am arguing that its bad to execute people for drug related offences
yes he broke the law, but the punishment does not fit the crime
From what I've read I think the feeling is that bringing heroin into the country is essentially killing the people end user of that supply, so you are a murderer for being a smuggler of dangerous goods. Not saying I agree, but I'm not in China.

making a supply of drugs harder to get increases the likelihood of addicts who want that drug going to more lengths to get it
i think theres a lot of crazy drug laws in asia
like death penalty or life in jail in a few places
i think marijuana is super illegal like heroin in japan
like one japanese girl keeps saying that even if you have like a tiny little speck of weed stuck to your shoe and they find it you get thrown in jail for 20 years or somethin
although i would not call that girl a reliable source of information

B. Polish people are all bastards
deserves what they get

Looking at you, Texas
Unless the law of the country in question states "the punishment for this crime is death", in which case it fits the crime exactly

according to their court of law, which is all that really matters in this case, you are correct
my bad i thought we were stating opinions ITT
You were, I was stating fact which tends to trump opinions in any meaningful context.
making a supply of drugs harder to get increases the likelihood of addicts who want that drug going to more lengths to get it
this increases violent crime, probably deaths too

too bad that we are on an internet forum and my opinions are just as valid when discussing the actions of a country
This is a grammatical nightmare!
