I liked the way the old B scroll worked better. The new way seems jumpy. Flash performance may be down but flash video performance is way, way up. SCORE.
As a side note wasnt there going to be an official nintendo opera browser for the ds ?
There is. It just hasn't gotten a US release yet, so you'd need to import from Japan or Europe. US version comes in June, IIRC.
No Flash support, though, which of course breaks half the intertubes since everybody uses Flash nowadays (probably a bad decision in the long run, but whatever).

There has been one for quite some time, but Nintendo hates people who aren't Japanese. It came out in Japan in July '06, and in Europe in October. It's finally hitting the states this June. Requires a "memory pack" that sits in the GBA slot in addition to the browser cart which uses the DS slot.
EDIT: Beat'd and I forgot it has no Flash. Booooo. Here's what wiki has to say.
So now that we have this, what's next. Didn't Miyamoto mention some sort of "Mii Challenge" channel or something? I suppose they'll probably surprise us, as they did with the Votes channel. I hope the original games channel arrives soon, though.
So a friend of mine pointed out to me the other day that it has the ability to recognize and render RSS ... so if you have a favorite news site that has an awful layout, you can go to their RSS feed and put it in your favorites. It's a whole lot faster that way.
so, i primarily use the internet channel to stream video on my tv. after a long session with the new one yesterday, it started crappin the hell out on me. i kept getting a message saying that there wasn't enough flash memory and the video would crash. it got incredibly annoying after awhile so i turned the thing off assuming that it's just been workin for too like (like 4 hours).
has this happened to anyone else? is there an explanation?

I hope we get a Miidia channel, so we can listen to MP3s off of our SD cards and maybe Miis will dance around on screen to the music or something.

That would be boring unless they started screwing each other once you put on some techno porn music.

I agree. I'm not too crazy about how B-scrolling works now. Scrolling with the D-pad works well though, so I'll probably use that most of the time. Otherwise, the improvements are great and were much needed.

Try restarting the program? I've had Orb videos die on me after a certain amount of time before, and I assumed it was just due to the Wii's paltry amount of memory running out.

Oh man. Checkin sbe-mails is perfect in fullscreen mode. In fact, pretty much all of homestar runner is, fits the TV perfectly.
I was so excited to see the Blue Light of Joy this morning - and then to have it be something awesome like this was just the icing on the cake. I agree that the B scrolling isn't quite as good as it was before. However, the rest of it is much better than it was before. I love the manual zooming and the ability to hide the menu is great. They did an excellent job, improved just about everything.
Regarding the new browser, I really have no need for it since I use the USB connector so I would need a computer on the internet anyways. Is there any real reason for me to even bother getting the browser? Or is it actually a decent alternative? I will admit that one thing I didn't think of (and I can't remember where I read it) is one guy said he was having problems with his computer lately, and so for the time being he had to use the Wii for his usual Internet stuff, like posting on forums.
Also, is there any security issues you need to watch out for? This is another reason why I didn't bother with the trial version at all. If I don't even have the browser, I can't see myself being worried if for some reason some guy makes a crazy Wii destroying virus or something.

So, yeah, give me some pros and cons, I guess.
Pros:
You can browse the internet from the comfort of your couch, hopefully on a big-screen TV.
The Wii Remote works well for many Flash games (such as at Wiicade.)
Convenient for gamefaqs if you're stuck in a game.
The browser works quite well, functionally.
The easiest-to-use internet browser outside of a computer.
Cons:
More cumbersome than a browser on a computer.
Text input, while better than most consoles, is still slow.
Not as compatible with all web-sites as a computer web browser.
Some plug-ins are still a bit shaky (though most seem to work well so far).
Though faster than before, is still relatively slow.
Bottom line: It's still not as convenient as just using a regular browser like Firefox or IE on your PC or Mac, but as far as consoles go, this is definitely the best alternative.
it's nice to have, since it's free. That's pretty much my outlook.
plus watching youtube and movie previews on my TV is awesome.
Basically, yes. If nothing else, even if you don't think you'll use it, go ahead and get it now while it's still free. It's only free until June, so if you change your mind and want it later, you'll have to pay for it.

The parts in yellow, I assume you mean for VC games, right? I never did think of the flash games, but then I hardly play any flash games. Hmm.......
Okay, say I were to download the browser. If I later deleted it after it's no longer free, could I still redownload it later, or would I have to pay whatever number of points it will be?

No I mean online flash games. Of course, you can only play the ones that only require the mouse to control, but that's a pretty good number of them. But yeah, many of them actually work better with the remote than with a mouse. Check out Wiicade for some examples.
As for deleting the browser, I have no idea. I would imagine that if it works like VC games, you could probably delete it and get it again later for free, but I don't know that for sure. If no one has answered yet, I'll check the internet channel manual when I get home to see if it says anything about it.

BTP. Having the web browser on your Wii is not a security risk, and unless you're running out of space on your Wii's memory, there's no reason not to get it. Just download it now, try it out, and use it if you like it and don't if you don't. You'll at least get to have the cute little Internet channel icon on your Wii Menu.
Even if there was a Wii-destroying virus, you'd still have to load the browser up and then you'd have to go to a site that is distributing it.
Add to that list of Pros watching YouTube videos on your TV from a couch instead of everybody huddling at your computer desk. Whenever my friends come over, there's inevitably a "I can't believe you haven't seen _______ yet!" moment. Before we'd have to all head over to a PC, but last time we watched the youtube videos right on the Wii without having to leave the living room.
After finding out that there's an RSS reader, I might bookmark a few gaming sites to look at after playing some VC games or something.
But yeah, VC save states + gamefaqs on the browser = amazingly convenient.
Yeah, I guess that's true. And about re-downloading, it seems it would let you get it back for free according to the shopping guide in the Wii Shop channel.
Oh, okay, I'll try it out. At least I know if I delete it later on, I can still get it back before June.
Running out of space? All I have is Wii Sports, Everybody Votes, and now Internet Channel. I've had the thing since December! Man, I can't wait to play Zelda and Trauma Center......and rent a game again. I just never have the free time to really devote into those types of games lately.
