I'm not really convinced that "Let's have some fun this beat is sick I wanna take a ride on your disco stick" is much worse than "I'm a genie in a bottle, you gotta rub me the right way" or something from the Rocky Horror Picture Show

I don't remember learning about sex.

I remember the puberty class in 5th grade, and I remember the big sex talk in 6th grade.

But I remember being ahead of the curve.

I had an interesting argument with a religious coworker today. I was arguing that any moral or ethical system is relative in nature, but he was utterly convinced that some absolute exists in the form of a god and therefore, any prescription to living (i.e., the Bible) is an absolute. I tried the whole cyclical thinking argument and all that, didn't work.

I am kind of sad that I could not convert a man who was raised Christian to atheism in a half hour conversation

he had no money so he got a public defender who was shit from an ass

he was offered a deal where he would plead guilty and avoid jail time but he'd have to be registered as a sex offender

he was dumb and scared of going to jail and his lawyer was a useless wad so he took the deal

it basically ruined his whole life and eventually he moved to another state, changed his name on the DL, and is basically committing a federal crime by evading the sex offender registry and falsifying his identity

if he ever gets caught he's going to get royally buttfucked by the system

so he's still not exactly making wise decisions

that said i mean people were vandalizing his house and threatening him and harassing his parents and he couldn't move out of his house because no apartment would rent to him

we had sex ed when i was a lad, and my mom felt confident that was sufficient and never saw fit to talk to me about it

then when i was 14 my mom found condoms in my room and realized i was sexually active and decided this needed to be talked about but wasn't confident in herself to handle it properly so she told my dad to do it

the conversation with my dad went like this:

    "boy, are you sexually active?"

    "yes, da."

"are you wearing condoms and not banging any whore who throws herself at you?"

    "yes da."

"good boy. My work here is done."

then he got us both a beer and we watched hockey

    cultural values are irrelevant
brains develop, sure, insofar as logical and abstract thinking

but the implication that cultural values are irrelevant to what kind of information a child should process is inane

look I'm not saying kids should be exposed to sex and shit early or late

I AM saying that insisting that there is a fixed time for which a child to be exposed to a specific topic or subject is DEFINITELY up to cultural context and priority

if you're raised around a certain kind of stimuli then you will respond to subsequent stimuli one way

if you're raised around ANOTHER set of stimuli then you will respond to subsequent stimuli ANOTHER way

and what stimuli a child gets is largely left to the parents

There was a big deal with a "sex offender" in my undergrad. The guy was actually arrested for making fake IDs for his friends, something like 3-4 of them. Then the cops found out that he had a girlfriend that was 17. He was 19, they had been going out since high school. Dun dun dun the school newspaper reported him as under arrest for being a sex offender.
