I can imagine the first person John ever talked to on pesterchum being CG, who immediately flips his shit at him.

I guess the frustration accounts for it. Which could explain why he was roughly the friendliest at the start. But I realize that we're seeing things flipped. John's demeanor is warming, but CG was still seeming to get nicer, even though the further you go back in time from CG's perspective, the less friendly he should be.
but again, frustration is an angle I hadn't thought of.
