Another day, another evening of Frosteey kicking my ass over and over again... lol
Good games. Biggest advice I'd give to you and Okkoto especially is that some times (most times) you really need to just be blocking when you get up from a knockdown. Jumping away in particular is generally a not great option. Backdash can be really good, depending on the specific character a bit.
You got a bit predictable at times with your own knockdown pressure. Really apparent with Gen and going for crossups almost every time.
And got a bit reliant on special moves for movement for some characters, when you should really be walking and using normals. Balrog with dash punches and Ibuki with neckbreakers.
I know this is a minor thing, but I'm really happy about the two TV setup on stage so that guys can set things up while another fight is going on. Its a nice change of pace from watching 30 minutes of button checks in a three hour set.
I had no idea that you could link the lp mp hp target combo into lp mk special. Craziness. I need to finish up my C to Shining C achievement so I can give Ibuki the time she deserves.
Would you be kind enough to break down the Rufus/Bison matchup? No need for anything novel-length, just say, what should I be punishing, what should I do and not do, and other general snippets.
So far I think Bison is probably my hardest fight as Rufus, but I will readily admit that i don't know the matchup, or Rufus himself all that well. Any advice is appreciated.
Hmmm... come to think of it, I've fought very very few Bisons in SSFIV. Those I have fought have been on the extreme ends of the good/bad spectrum... so those fights were lost or won before they began. I'm afraid to give you any tips just because I don't know if the tweaks between SFIV vs SSFIV have made the match-up any different. But I'll give you a few helpful hints that prob still hold true.
1. Don't worry. Rufus isn't at any disadvantage when fighting Bison, Bison just plays very differently then other characters and is very good at mind games. He's a character you need to practice fighting against... or as! Sometimes the best way to understand how to beat a character is to play as that character.
2. Ex-Messiah whifs over Bison up close, so be careful!
3. In SFIV tornado had priority over Scissor kicks, since tornado was actually buffed, this may now be Bison's bane.
4. Ultra 1 is amazing, one of the best Ultras in the game. BUT Ultra 2 is also pretty damn good and very underrated in my opinion. It seems every time I'm up against an El Fuerte or a player who has a jumping fetish, this move totally screws with their mind and wins me the match. Since Bison has some mind fucking aerial moves, try using Ultra 2 to shut him down. It sucks people in, so even if the Bison is trying to draw you out. It's also good at countering Ulras. So if Bison makes a sloppy ultra attempt, quickly trigger Big Bang and you may out prioritize him. If you find yourself missing many Ultra 1's, don't be afraid to switch to Ultra 2 as it is very hard to miss if you get down the timing.
5. Cr. MP stuffed his head-stomps in SFIV, prob does in SSFIV to.
6. Rufus is the king of rushdowns, but against non projectile characters, he can also turtle fairly well. Go into turtle mode and use cr. HP, cr. MP, Snake Strikes, ect to keep the enemy at bay. Read his tactics, and see if you can catch him in a pattern and land j. HK into EX-Snake strikes. Switch on and off between rushdown and turtling to really throw an opponent off.
PS- Great to see another Rufus fan! I love the guy! He is just a god-damn blast to play as. Please send tips my way if you figure out how to not get chewed up by Akuma and Zangief players.
