So I was sitting in an auditorium today, waiting to hear some orchestral music, and I noticed this eight-year-old kid sitting in the row in front of me.
And I was just idly listening to my iPod prior to the show, and a few tracks from the first Pokemon album started playing on my iPod.
Suddenly, I realized that the kid sitting in front of me was about the same age I was when I first got the CD version of the Pokemon album, which has since been lost to the sands of time.
It also occurred to me that if I asked him to listen to a couple of tracks, he'd start asking me about Dawn and Max, instead of Misty and Brock... Or maybe even a few of the characters from the Bakugan anime.
And this made me feel like kind of an old dude.
SE++, what recent experiences made you realize that shit that was popular when you were a kid is no longer quite as popular?

Skateboards were kind of lame after you fell down 20+ times.
nowadays the only cool cartoons there are is Chowder, Flapjack, Adventure Time, and the upcoming Normal Show
also there's no cool inventions to play with like the Slinkie back in my day
the 2000's suck

Seriously, his voice should not be that deep.
What the fuck is wrong with you?
NOTE: There's an excellent chance that half my posts in this thread will be about how Pokemon has changed. Don't fight it.

Was fantastic.
I was putting on my Twitter this morning the things I planned to do, and then remembered that was everyone did in the dorms when I first went to college. We would put in our AIM away messages a list like "class, lunch, rehearsal, blah blah blah" in case someone needed to find us (nearly all of my friends did this).
Now people just do it real time, or text people if they need them. I don't even know anyone who uses AIM.
Also, I took a summer lab course and there were a couple high schoolers in it. They told me they wished they had grown up in the 90's and I wanted to die right there.

How the fuck are we 90s kids supposed to fight against the 80s?
well it's certainly not stupid and dumb like pokemon
OH HELLZ NO.
90s cartoons were actually objectively better
Animaniacs, Beast Wars, Darkwing Duck, Gargoyles, TaleSpin, Tiny Toon Adventures, Freakazoid, Batman: The Animated Series, and Superman: The Animated Series
But then I tried to go back and watch some of it. Blech.

i simply can't empathize with the childhood of anyone whose immediate thoughts about 'pocket monsters' aren't these
I've always disliked your face :x
jezz, this is the absolute worst thing, of all time.
How can you do this?
@Centipede: Apparently I spoke to soon.
are you kidding
i dare you to tell me you were a child who wouldn't have madly dreamed about completing that collection
I didn't know it was still a thing.
Pokemon as a show is god fucking awful, devoid of ANY content, and just plain embarrassing.
If you can derive any entertainment from that tripe you need to take off your rose colored glasses.

The first few seasons were great for children.

Yeah it was alright I guess.
Sorry I'm so mad, but I had a friend try and dispute the show wasnt awful to watch now.
please don't ask a stranger's child to listen to your music and then to follow you to your car please
haha i had a crapload of those cards
i think i played it about twice. nobody else wanted to learn the rules and i'm not sure i ever did properly, either
This is exactly what happened to me. My brother and I bought tons, but we were the only ones that knew or wanted to know how to play.
But then I found out my current boss was heavy on the tournament scene, and he puts it all to shame. Dude would buy cases just to make sure he had enough of the primo rares like the Vaders and such.
