What time is it? If you guessed International Black Film Festival time then you get a cookie! All my cookies! So.. you'll have to wait until I bake some.
Wait, where is this?
The KIFF (Kansas Int'l Film Festival) starts tonight as well, with a documentary about Stieg Larsson that I wish I could see.
The country isn't becoming more conservative. The country is becoming more polarized. Conservatives are being more vocal, shrill, and pissed-off right now because they are out of power. We saw the same thing from liberals during the Bush years (nevermind that he deserved much of the criticism he received, the point I'm making is that liberals were extremely vocal and angry during that time. It's a natural effect of the political environment).
Shit, we see it here in any given political thread, which is why I mostly avoid them. Points of disagreement rapidly turn into a veiled personal attacks and I-can't-believe-you-think-thats. Because it has become more and more important among politically-minded people that everyone agree with them and anything else is blatantly and objectively wrong. I have a milder approach to politics, so the rabid ideological fervor that has become commonplace has pretty much disillusioned me and caused me to drift away... and of course the result is that as a "disinterested moderate", that opens me up to attack from those same people for not being active enough.
Okay, rant over.

Oh hey since you two are here...
I had an idea to do a PA Film series. Each week we bring in a forumer who is an expert on various types of film. They select a movie off of instant watch and we discuss it's significance. Do you think there would be interest in this. Do you think it would last more then a week?

I think it's worth a shot, at least, as long as we're scrupulous about picking movies that people can find on Instant. In fact, maybe mention the instant thing in the title of the thread. It seems like a lot of forumers have netflix but are kind of paralyzed by choice and would welcome some direction.

The UK is swinging to the right again. We have a mostly Conservative coalition government (I honestly didn't think I'd see another Tory Prime Minister for at least another couple of election cycles), and the far right groups that have gained a foothold in the EU seem to be making inroads here, too.
It also looks like the Royal Mail is going to be privatised and the railways aren't going to be re-nationalised (except for the East Coast Main Line), which is a bit upsetting. However they do seem more amenable to progressive tax strutctures than they have been historically, though I don't know how much of that is the Lib Dem influence.

You read Ayn Rand while we just talk about her work. You complete us.
Boo, sir. You should fix that!
Presumably you want it back.
I don't know what you'll do about the horniness otherwie.
Man I could so be a predator pilot.
In fact that's probably the only role I'd be willing to take in the armed forces.
What does that make me?
the "no true scotch man" fallacy.
Seriously.
I could have eaten that goddamn book the first time I read that part.
