Oh hey. I finished The Witcher on Tuesday, after having it for a year and a half. Pretty great ending, especially for such a long game. The ending video was badass. Can't wait for the sequel.

I laughed harder at the end of that than I probably should have.
I like the providing of branching, but reasonably contained, solutions. One of the nice bits about Deus Ex was that while you got a lot of choice in approach, you always had a general idea of what was possible. I find that in a lot of multiple-option games everything becomes so undifferentiated eventually that it's not really interesting.
STALKER for instance only gave me one or two very good sneaky bits, even though it was technically always an option.
In a late night missive from Polish publisher CD Projekt, The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings was given a solid release date: May 17, 2011. Project lead Adam Badowski admitted that the launch had been moved back "a few weeks" to allow the PC action-RPG more development time. "We've decided to the move the launch date back a few weeks to afford us more time to polish the game," he said.
CD Projekt also teased "hot news" to be served up during the publisher's autumn conference on November 18, including details of the game's Collector's Edition, pre-order specifics, and more. If you can't make it to the conference in person -- it's in Warsaw, Poland, after all -- it'll be streaming live on both the official Witcher 2 website and the game's Facebook page starting at 12:30PM EST sharp on November 18.
In the meantime, GameStop appears to have already launched the game's collector's edition listing, showing a $130 price tag and ... umm ... like, a ton of stuff (listed after the break). It's a good thing you have about half a year to save up all that dough!
* The Vernon Roche Commando Jacket (boosts player's sword-fighting abilities when equipped).
* Making-of DVD
* Official Soundtrack
* World Map
* Art Book
* Geralt Sculpture
* Temerian Coin
* Dice Set
* 3 Stickers
* Playing Cards and Rulebook
* Cursed Coin and Pamphlet
* Papercraft figures of the "Big Bad" and two game characters
I hope they actually treat romance seriously in this game.
PFFFFTTHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

OH GOD CAN'T BREATHE CAN'T BREATHE
Also, seeing a retail PC box in this day and age with something in it other than a disc and a single-sheet quick-start guide is weirding me out. I don't know whether to be happy about it or to just go ahead and face the fact that it'll never happen again.
Not that I intend to get it, but man CD Projekt know how to do a decent SE.
I rebought the Witcher 1 when it came out as an SE. Soundtrack disc, proper manual, map, making of DVD, and even the first part of the book, which was pretty cool. I also liked that they threw in an official guide, better than looking stuff up on Gamefaqs.
You know what I got in my SE of Dawn of War 2? A steel cover and 4 pieces of in-game wargear, which were soon replaced anyway. Not that I intend to knock Relic, their post-release support's been awesome, but that's not really all that special.
I wish I could take back clicking those spoiler boxes.

If you read the books which are damn good and highly recommended Geralt tends to have a sucky love life, sure he hits everything with a pair of breast but it doesn't ever quite work out. One main character who has a big role in the games even has something pretty shocking happen to them and you never see what, your just told it happened, of course later on it kind turns out opps, they were wrong about said fate.
Back to the game, yeah some of that stuff is useless, the bust is kind of a eh thing but I got to say overall I'm just glad to see a PC developer as Monger said above give anything at all, CD Projekt goes well above the call of duty in offering so much and I'm thankful for that, I know I shall be getting this because I want it to be a success and damnit, PC games deserve such things themselves. Plus yeah I'm a fan of the Witcher so it all works out, even if the price is a tad high.
I'm of the opinion that The Witcher 2 is going to spank Dragon Age 2 as if it was a little pup.
When people talk about moral choices in games, decisions that can influence things and something truly epic, you can take your Mass Effects and Dragon Age and they still pale in comparison to what The Witcher did.
I just couldn't finish the Witcher because of the romances. Not even Mass Effect commits the same amount of fellatio on the player in attempting to show how much of a badass he or she is.

Umm, you do know that this is your fault? You are never forced to participate in the romances, and since the romances are completely player activated then what you have a problem is your active pursuit in these romances. It is your desire of these romances that you're sicken with. I recommend talking to a counselor.
I never got why so many complained about Geralt being able to bang some women in the game or said nudity with the cards.
I can only chalk it up to how America was raised as a more prudish country when it came to everything dealing with sex or the human body.
My problem with it is that it's not very nice to womenfolk. There were only two kinds of women in the game: ugly old women and voluptuous babes whose pornograph you could get. I don't care a whole lot, though.

Man that Geralt sculpture is fugly. The papercraft looks awesome, though.

To be fair though in most games we see the ideal form of a person, women get their guys with muscles or good bodies they can drool over and men get buxom bodied women they can slobber over as well.
As you say there are some ugly models but even then men in the game had some "worn out versions" ala the old womenfolk as well so it goes both ways.
You know, I will always love CD Projekt for going back and doing the Witcher Enchanced Edition completely free of charge.
... but I really hope it won't be necessary this time. I bought the game at release and never really got into it until the new edition came out. And even then I think the game still has its share of issues. Everything I've seen from the second game looks really promising, though.

This one time, I gave an elf lady some meat. You know, because she hadn't eaten in a week. People generally like to eat. Daily, if possible.
I am wondering how this is going to fare in the wake of Dragon Age 2.
At the same time, man they are making some worrying changes to Dragon Age 2.
I don't know about any one else, but the changes to DA2, most notably to the price tag, have got me convinced to switch the money I was going to spend on it to this instead

Sexing happened immediately. I was confused.
Is this the half-elf lady you safe from the thugs? I thought it was pretty obvious her way of thanking you would involve more than a 'THANK YOU HERO, HAVE THIS TRINKET AS A REWARD'.
I mean, the game's 18+ and it's The Witcher. You're gonna have random sexings, especially if you're oblivious to innuendo.

Half elf lady? I can't remember who that is exactly myself.
The game is based on the novels and yeah, let's just say that the game stayed true to how Geralt is able to get down with the women folk now and then. Though it's never over done or explicit.

No. In chapter 4, there is a cave full of scoia'tael that had been cut off from their supply lines. If you talk to them, they're all starving, but will refuse help for reasons of pride. Except for one lady that's too hungry to care. No innuendo in her dialogue. Just "I'm so hungry please take pity" and then boning.
I mean, I understand that it's intended to be a thank you, but there was literally no lead up to it at all. I'm pretty sure I remember the sex/card screen popping up immediately upon gifting the food.

I can't remember that at all! Lemme google for a bit.
Oh right, this one. Unfortunately they don't have the dialogue listed. Well, at least it's a tame card. :?

Most of the others had a lead up. I would definitely say that that one came out of nowhere. Also, if you give her food, then she says 'don't take pity on me, I hate you', geralt is all 'man, I just gave you food, stop being so haughty' (although, in a way that wasn't obviously asking for sex), and then the elf is 'I still hate you, and I hate you so much that I'm going to beat you as we have sex', then the card. With no option to opt out at any point. It's a bit weird. Also, romances weren't handled all that badly. The random sexing was just that, but pursuing a relationship with Shanni or Triss wasn't all that bad. I liked going out and getting drunk with dandelion and zoltan, then coming home drunk, scaring alvin so that he begged not to be beaten, and then getting berated by Triss. That was pretty funny.

All right, people. It is not a gerbil. It is not a hamster. It is not a guinea pig. It is a death rabbit. Death. Rabbit. Say it with me, now.
Yeah, Geralt's voice is the same. Not sure about Zoltan's though.
