While we are still very much in design discussion about this - the goals are to ensure that your full ship crew is better represented in the game. Currently you have several bridge officers and a bunch of little meeples on the crew bar of the HUD.
We've always wanted a ship's crew to have a much bigger impact on the space portion of the game, because even though your ships might be similar, your crews can be vastly different and have a different focus. Maybe you have more medical staff, or more engineers. Maybe your ship is full of exobiologists, or maybe some warp theorists. Who knows... but what I do know is that it would be pretty darn cool if I could choose who is on my crew and assign everyone to real departments on my ship and get some customization out of how I setup my ship. This also gives more of a reason to seek out specific crew members and why you might contact your recruiting channels to see who is coming up out of the academy and try to get them on your ship.
That is it in a nutshell, but we'll have to see how it turns out! I'm sure it will be EPIC :P

alright, so Im tempted to get into this game with the new season coming out and all that. I played it during beta and the first month of live. Worth resubscribing?

It's definitely worth getting a free trial to find out.
I enjoy the game, but at the same time I know it's not going to be everyone's cup of tea (or prune juice, if you're looking for a warrior's drink).

OK, so the new ship, the NX, is a Light Escort, along the same lines as the other ship being a Light Cruiser. Differences include a crew of 85 rather than 200, two tactical consoles rather than engineering, and a hull of 10k rather than 12k. Also, the Inertia stat is at 50 rather than 45, whatever that means.
I guess higher is better, seeing as my regular cruiser has an inertia of 40.
Regular Miranda also has a hull of 10k, crew of 200, inertia of 45, and one each of the consoles. (Or so I am told.)
Edit: It has built onto it that grapple device they used on the TV show, which equates to a less effective tractor beam.
I painted mine to my usual specifications, but you have the standard range of appearance options for this ship, bearing in mind you can't change out the actual geometry.
Edit: And it does not have the Enterprise Bridge. Damnit.
Edit Edit: And E-Mail!
Greetings, Captain!
Winter is approaching, and we've been hard at work here at Cryptic Studios. Here's some of what you can expect just before the holidays!
Season Three: Genesis
Our latest massive update, Season Three: Genesis, is all about improving your quality of life and giving you more say in your Star Trek Online experience. Genesis will feature many gameplay upgrades; here are just a few we can't wait to share with you:
The Foundry Beta (v 0.3) – Our player-created content system will go into public beta when we launch. Have you ever wanted to design your own mission in Star Trek Online? Here's your chance! Using The Foundry, you can construct Episodes and share them with your friends.
Episode Replay – In Genesis, you'll be able to replay every mission you've previously enjoyed, and some will feature brand new rewards.
Borg Technology In Your Ship - In Season Three, you'll be able to integrate Borg technology into your ships. This new loot from Special Task Force missions will greatly augment your ship's usefulness as well as its appearance.
New Sector Space - We've revamped Sector Space to give it a more realistic look and feel.
There's even more available. To learn more, check out our Season Three: Genesis informational page.
Design The Next Enterprise
Seriously. We're working with our friends at CBS and Intel to turn the design of the next canon Enterprise over to you, Star Trek's most dedicated fans. Here are the prizes available:
Grand Prize: Custom, STO-painted Alienware M11x laptop; STO Collector's Edition; STO Lifetime Membership; and a 3-D model of the winning design.
Second Prize: Alienware laptop (no custom paint job), STO Collector's Edition and an STO Lifetime Membership.
Third Prize: STO Collector's Edition, STO Lifetime Membership and an Intel Core i7-875k processor.
Fourth Prize: STO Collector's Edition and an STO Lifetime Membership.
Twenty-one Honorable Mentions: Standard-edition copy of STO and a Star Trek Online poster.
And that's just a tiny bit of what's happening in Star Trek Online over the next month. Be sure to check in at the Star Trek Online official website for more updates. As always, thank you so much for your support.

In a sense I regret being one of the first ones in the game cause now I can't take advantage of some things, like the diplomacy system. I know it's there but it's far too rough for me to get in on now.
But I'm glad I'm one of the first ones in because I get to help all the people below me... Which is kinda neat...
I'm going to try and be online around 8:30 or 9 tonight... Mostly to look at some things on Tribble. but I'm curious about the NX ship and Infected. Most the Borg set pieces.
It was a pretty lousy grind up from next to nothing when I hit VA, but yeah, it's not that bad. So many B'tran missions will give you 10 points in it that it can sorta just happen. Do your b'tran daily and in a few weeks you'll have your very own orion slave girl.
I'm not big on grinding... Plus that's a significant number of missions. Remember folks, I'm maintaining about 5 characters, soon to be 6.. I'm also trying to level 2, soon to be three klingons at the same time.... Not the smartest, but sadly my feddies get a bit left out... My grinding right now consists of trying to get my science guy a nebbie...

alright, gonna try to scrounge up a free trial and start a new character, probably engineer, so I can get the big ships and beams. Any good strat guides around to get me up to speed again. Also I used to be in the PA clan or whatever, how do I get back into it?
The diplomacy system is ridiculously easy. The only time I actually grinded it was when I was like 100 xp away from Ambassador.
The Deferi prison daily gives 10. Once you hit Attache (I think) you can get a lot of diplomatic investigation missions that give 10. Then at Envoy you get First Contact missions which if done correctly give you 20. Not to mention just doing those exploration missions means you have a good chance of getting one that gives diplo xp (those computer missions and scan the "x" missions give 10 each if there are no enemies, aid the planet gives 10 as well).

Some of them give 10 even if there are enemies. I never did figure out a pattern to all of them. Only some missions where you're checking computers and killing guys give it, but most missions where you're scanning ships with space combat do.
Cause of my Lifetime I still have my 45 Kling and 45 Sci Officer. I updated and tried playing a bit tonight.... Yikes. I forgot most of what was going on. I might reroll just to get my space legs back. Especially since it really didn't take to long to level up (Fed side) last time I did it. Or play a lower level til I feel comfortable and then jump back in on my 45s.
Well, I up and bought the two additional uniform slots tonight, because I love my crazy Spiff attire, but damned if it doesn't feel awkward not wearing a regulation Starfleet uniform. Plus this leaves me one more slot for the classic uniform on this time traveling missions.
I think you'd enjoy starting over, at least for a while. The quality of the game in general really did pick up.
Also, if you thought leveling up Federation side was fast before, it's still improved greatly. The featured episodes scale to your current level. The Breen series is available at level 10, the Devidian series at 6. They give some pretty amazing rewards that scale with your level as well. Right now that includes one of the highest expose rate guns in the game and the proton rifle, which is all around overpowered compared to just about anything, at least in terms of solo PVE. Not to mention personal and ship devices, a couple ship weapons and another two less notable ground weapons.
The cumulative effect of so many nice level-scaling items available at low levels is pretty impressive. The Romulan front still sucked royally when I went through it during the Breen series, but doing it on an alt packed with all the new scaling rewards it's only annoying at worst, that proton rifle just destroys the place.

I made the mistake of reading some of the Dreadnought Canon thread. There was literally a discussion about it having three nacelles and why that wouldn't work according to technical specifications.

...I only wish I could forget reading it.
The canon threads over there make my ears bleed. There seems to be a very special brand of trekkie canon argument on the STO forums, most more popular Trek forums would squash it pretty fast (at least back when I still followed them - Voyager and DS9 were still on TV back then).
The tech manuals do say that warp nacelles have to work in even numbers, but those are soft canon. Where they disagree with the shows and movies, the manuals even say the show is right. All the way back to TOS there were 1 nacelle ships, and the Prometheus class has five (ones pops up from the saucer section in MVAM, I suppose it's not used for combined flight, but on its own the saucer is a one-nacelle ship).

So is there a confirmed bonus for testing the new content yet?
They've had one for every season so far. Makes sense they'd have one for this one.
Handy flow chart for getting any specific breed you want.
The Triolic tribbles don't seem particularly valuable. Rather than breed up what I needed I hit the exchange and got them for a few thousand credits each. Cryo tribbles were slightly more valuable. Ones with the big buffs, though, go pretty decent. I shelled out for DPS tribbles and had to pay about 64k each.
Thinking about coming back and giving this a try. Last I played was 2 months after launch, and it looks like alot has changed for the better.
Worth it? Any kind of returning player trial deals?
No returning special, unfortunately. But I was in about the same boat you are - I think it was definitely worth coming back. I'm also satisfied with having deleted my old character and started over, the whole experience was better from the ground up this time. The story missions they added Klingon side are better than almost all of the Federation's, and featured episodes are mostly better than them, too. There's definitely an upward trend in the quality of new content.
