    well how does email gifting work, does it send you a custom link or something that you can click?

    because hypothetically you could send your own email a bunch of gifts, copy all the links, and then put them into a PM or something

    Seems like an odd precaution

    Only way I could see it stopping any damage from a stolen account is if the person opted to have steam save their billing info

    Not me. It's kind of a precautionary measure. If I want to buy something I have to dig out my credit card and fill in all the info. The process takes a bit of time and hammers the idea home that 'hey you're about to spend money.' For me at least, it helps reduce impulse buys.
