I'd like to see John Galt framed as anything but a bond villian

He's treated like that in the book, though (well, as a "Good Guy", not a villain). He's held up as an ideal, not a real person. He's a two dimensional character.

Everybody in that book is a two-dimensional character.

True. But he's the flattest of the flat.

Yes. I had no idea this was even a possible issue or I would have plugged in the old clock radio.

Though how an operating clock is even an issue at all is beyond me.
No one did, but apparently it's widespread and Apple has said nothing about fixing it.

Reagan was a third-rate actor and radio personality. He didn't have strong ideological beliefs even though he played the president on TV

In my interpretation of AS, John Galt is unobtainable perfection.
(he invented a god damn static electric engine for crying out loud)

An ideal, in much the same manner our founding fathers are portrayed and such. Unfortunately, in a supremely idealistic nation, people didn't find this representation particularly far-fetched.

I know, he was pretty much as bought as you get with a politician. But still listening to that radio broadcast is the twilight zone because you recognize his voice and what he is saying is against everything you hear him say from about 1960 onward. Of course lots of money does change ones heart fast.

It's a testament to the myth-building power of the Republican party that people remember Reagan as a strong president and not a smarmy shlep recruited into a figure-head role originally designed for James Stewart

I think I might go to the makeup store in Yorkdale and be like "listen I have dolla to spend but I am 20 years old and don't know anything about makeup, halp."

But the makeup store is MAC and I'm afraid they'll make me look like a whore.

You could ask Rad. She works for Sephora and I'm guessing she could tell you quite a bit.

If you want to hear something nuts go look I think its the 1948 Democratic convention. Reagan was a speaker. Its like listening to the twilight zone.

Reagan is going to be one of those historical figures who is going to get metric tons of books written about him in 20 years. His Presidency was much more complicated then Saint Reagan belief the GOP tends to hold up.

Reagan's presidency outside of some cluster fucks was a resounding success for the policies his backers wanted. Now that isn't so much due to Reagan but due to congress and those around Reagan. Actually since we are hitting that 20 to 30 year mark you will start seeing some books that are more than propoganda in the next 5 to 10 years.

Part of this will only work if those in charge let documents which hit their limitation to be released to historians and the public.

Though the consequences of Reagan's presidency will probably go on for a long long time much like Lincoln, Jackson, and so on.

    Things people forgot Reagan did:

-Pushed for Tax increases multiple times at the State and Federal level. The 1983 tax increase is still the largest in terms of GDP that we've ever had.
-Appointed O'Conner to the Supreme Court
-Pushed for and approved for an amnesty for 1.3 million illegals
-As Governor he pushed for one of the most liberal Abortion laws of the time. As President he did what he could to prevent challenges to Row v Wade
-As Governor he defended several nature preserves from development
-Bailed out Social Security, in the process taxed upper income SS benefits.

His political career tends to get a very black or white viewing but it's a lot more complicated.
