Guys, I bought a 42" LCD TV, a Blu-ray writer and a wireless keyboard and mouse today to turn my pc into a HTPC. It is so fucking awesome. This is also my gaming rig, so Titan Quest at 42 inches is totally wicked.
Nice

Mr. Gabler begins with the assertion that, “as anyone who has ever wiggled in his seat at a classical music concert or stared in disbelief at a work of conceptual art can attest, culture in America has usually been imposed from the top down.” And what about the vastly larger segment of the population who avoid such egghead pastimes altogether? They are the heroes of Mr. Gabler’s article, which is about how an anonymous band of “democrats” overthrew the forces of “official” culture as embodied by “media executives, academics, elite tastemakers and of course critics.”
These people, also characterized as “cultural imperialists” and “commissars,” have conducted a long and tireless campaign to force everyone else to look at conceptual art and go to classical music. “For over 200 years,” Mr. Gabler writes, “normal Americans have longed to exercise their independence and free themselves form the tyranny of the elitists.” And now, apparently, that nightmare of oppression is over.
...
The virtue of Mr. Gabler’s essay is that it gives energetic and eloquent voice to a pervasive ideological fantasy. None of the “commissars” and “imperialists” in his tableau of cultural dictatorship are named, and that is for the simple reason they are imaginary creatures. I don’t mean like straw men erected for purposes of debate, but instead like ogres and dragons invented to scare children.
I will never forget that sixth grade trip to the orchestra. All of us being forced into our seats, squirming, trying to find some way out of this. Then Timmy broke free. The cultural commissar shot him down where he stood. His dying act was to attempt to whimper in time with Pachelbel's Canon in d major.
Five stars. :^:

The misanthropy thread reminds me of this: I used to like Michael Shermer.
But then I found out he was a huge libertarian. He is also pro-religion - not because he buys into any of it, but because he is of the opinion that that is the only moral way to get social services into a society. I cannot listen to him now.
It would be better if it were more stable or the netcode wasn't horrendous.
i am playing on the SE++ hard-mode survival server and it is incredibly fun
night-time is scary and people have to work together to survive
How is the lag? I've found that once you get a bunch of monsters and more than 5 players, you need a pretty heroic internet connection on the server to keep up.
Also, monsters and their attacks decouple by about 2 seconds, making it extra hard to stay alive.

OK then. You'll have to tell me what's up because I have no idea what it is.
Also, leftover thai food and a grilled cheese sandwich is probably not a conventional dinner, but it's working. I wonder if I have any wine.
You totally don't. The Mac Vent client is fine. I use it all the time. It's nearly identical to the PC client, actually.
