Batman and Robin is an excellent book but it would be like coming into a TV show in season 4. You really need to have read Batman & Son, The Black Glove, Batman RIP and Final Crisis before it.
The Long Halloween is an ok book and has beautiful art but Jeph Loeb's writing has not aged well, and in any case it is a direct sequel to Year One.
Also get both volumes of all-star superman at once
You can't not like it if you have a soul
I am getting one as a test. Because I really really don't care for 99% of all Superman stuff, Senj. In fact I would say he is one of my least favorite comic book characters of the main set. I am doing this because of Jacobs continual pushing and he has good taste. If I like it, I will grab volume 2.
Man, my dad thinks he's such a connoisseur. I lent him my copy of The Long Halloween and he's like "there's not really anything new in here." It's a fucking noir story with Batman! What the shit is he expecting? They can't all be Watchmen!

Sometimes tvtropes is blocked here, and I can't figure out why
Taste.
And I'm dissapointed it must have been in a review for another movie Ebert called out the specialist for the sex scene, his original doesn't mention it at all.

I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.

Someone should do a Superman comic where none of the convenient and improbable things that can harm/disable/stop Superman exist, and he just mops the floor instantly with everyone.
I don't even know why DC does the All-Star Superman trades as two volumes.
DC's trades department is run by apes. For every smart decision they make, like collecting JLA in big deluxe hardbacks, they make three inexplicable or awful ones.

Is Crisis on Infinite Earths any good? Or is it just a disaster?
It's a fantastic and hugely important story if you're really steeped in DC lore. It will be completely incomprehensible otherwise. You'll need to know, for instance, why there are two Supermans and one of them is thirty years older than the other one. It would also help to know the history of the Marvel family and the Charlton Comics characters.

The only comics I ever read are from whatever Straczynski is writing at the moment.

Yes. And Mazzy, you should get both volumes of All-Star Superman at once.
Year One by a mile, Mazzy.

This is an error.

Because the army loves you. Sometimes.
I bet you don't even have a soul

A bench with a view.
Nerd isn't always sarcastic, he's just always stoned as fuck. His straightedgeitude is merely a carefully-cultivated persona.
I don't even kid as much as I used to
Also Year One bought, and now that I think about it I can't go wrong. I like most of Frank Miller's stuff.
I feel like maybe he discovered weed within the last two weeks or so and he just doesn't want us to know.

imma pop you in the mouth, nerd
Whoa? Seriously? Man thats evidence of soullessness more then anything. Either that or you're a hooker with a heart of gold.

don't be such a Tsundere, tyrannus-kun~

do you need to have read regular superman first

He had a lot of really good stuff before he went crazy and became obsessed with whores. His run on Daredevil was amazing.
I am pretty soulless, I have a second interview at a financial firm tomorrow. They can tell like kind.
Red Son I think?

I mean, really, you think you'd be my favorite if you weren't constantly sarcastic?
It's a mess. It's an interesting read if you want the historical value but it's a clusterfuck as a straight arc.
Nope.
Doesn't that happen to a lot of comic book writers? Like as they age they get worse?
I just know that nothing will ever equal Smith's run with Batman, nothing.

Red Son? It's pretty awesome.
And no, you don't need to have read Superman first, provided you're familiar with the general storyline and major characters.
