So how hard is it to replace an audio head/deck/whatever you call it, generally? Couple hours on Saturday, all day Saturday, or 'oh crackers, hire someone already'?
The audio head/navigation thingy my civic game with is literally shit, I'd like to replace it and get a deck what'll let me hook up my phone via blue teeth

Depends entirely on just how evil the interior designers were.
Some cars you can pretty much just slide them straight out, other cars you have to dismantle the whole dashboard.

Dismantling the dashboard isn't that bad regardless.
You will also need to have some basic soldering skills.

Until one or more of the stupid little plastic clips they use to clip all the plastic together breaks, and you can't get any more from a dealership, or a parts store, so you just have to bung it all back together and now the dash squeaks and rattles and just exactly what was wrong with fucking screws you assholes?

Last night driving the jeep around the oil pressure dropped to 20 while at Idle. Kinda weird. At acceleration it went back up to 40 (middle of the gauge) and would stay there as long as the engine was under load.
This morning it was back to hovering at 40 all the time like normal. Wonder what happened.
FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF I want a Mercedes Benz G as a company car for my hypothetical IT company.
Just look at that!
No nonsense! I like that! I want that! Most cars nowadays look like something my mom would drive, this thing looks like something a real man made for the purpose of having a car that will get everywhere and anywhere.

My guess? Nothing
Don't worry about that unless the gauge pins in either direction. Then you have a problem

Are there any particular brand names I should look for when it comes to car audio decks/heads/whatever they're called? Phillips, JVC, what? Or are they all ok?
Also, if I'm replacing the head does that necessitate replacing the amp or speakers (which I don't wanna do) or would they be ok?
(edit) Actually do they make audio heads that can play video/DVD/whatever? That would be pretty sick, I've only ever seen them for rear seats (driver distraction I know but damnit I want cool toys)
Just go to Best Buy and do whatever they tell you to do.

Im a fan of Alpine head units. Been running various ones for almost 15 years with narry a problem. They aren't the flashiest head units out there, but not too bad.
If your replacing a stock stereo head unit I doubt you have an amplifier installed, the head unit is powering them. As long as you correctly wire in the new wiring harness your speakers should work fine.
The job isn't hard to do, but I would strongly recommend having someone who knows what the fuck watch over you while you do it, so you don't make any stupid mistakes. Also make damn sure to disconnect the battery first before messing with the wiring.
If you're lucky your car might and the stereo you buy might have sockets ready made.
My car had one, just had to plug my stereo in and slide it in and I was done. Well the car antenna would have needed an adapter but I don't listen to radio anyway and there isn't any ground electricity or whatever plugged in so the settings won't save, but still it WORKS. It play music.

I'd also recommend Alpine
Also depending on your vehicle, you may need an adapter plate (if the factory radio hole is bigger than what you're installing). This can be had at your local Best Buy/Car Toys etc. Also get a wiring adapter harness for your make/model, it takes all the guesswork out of the equation and makes it a simple "green wire goes to green wire" install

In reality they're a long, long way from utilitarian.
These are much closer to the 'simple, go anywhere anyhow anytime' kind of vehicle you dream of:
I'm going to sign over my current Astra from 1996 which has gone 300 000 kilometers over to the company.
That's going to be the company car. Buy some decals of the company logo and stick them on there.
(edit) Actually do they make audio heads that can play video/DVD/whatever? That would be pretty sick, I've only ever seen them for rear seats (driver distraction I know but damnit I want cool toys)
I was once driving in the city here and I pulled up to a red light and noticed some movement in the car next to me
so I look over and there's a fairly large, maybe 10 inch LCD screen mounted in the dash that the driver is casually ignoring
and this screen is playing porn.
straight up hardcore in close porn. P in V on a dude's dash in the middle of the city at 2 in the afternoon.

hahaha reminds me of a story
My friends went to an NFL game with one of the guy's dad.
They had a Mini-van with a TV in the cieling.
Tailgating, they get hammered. During the game they get uber hammered.
While trying to leave the parking lot afterwards (something that takes hours) people start pulling up next to the car and cussing out the dad, saying "You're disgusting I have kids in this car! etc"
Guess what someone had snuck onto the TV, hahaha he was piiiiiissed

I'm pretty sure it's illegal most anywhere.
It's definitely illegal here. If screens are mounted in the front, you're required to have a system in place with means they're only operable when the parking break is engaged.

I actually wonder what the law is here in Nevada (or would it be Clark County, or Las Vegas, I dunno)
'cause I know I can fiddle around with my current GPS while moving, even though I don't because holy shit that ain't safe
(edit) Wait were you referring to screens in the front in general or porno on same

everyone Ive ever known with those DVD in dash players has circumvented the restrictions on when it works. I'm surprised people don't get in trouble for Turn by Turn systems. Some people watch those exclusively instead of the road.

Oh well, see what Frys'll charge on Saturday
but trying to put one in my girlfriend's nissan micra felt like I had to disassemble the entire interior
deservedly so.
(well the european model at least, i don't like the looks of the american focus and i wonder if it's the same under the hood)
Need an oil change, to be sure. Likely new spark plugs as well, but the whole deal? Not going to happen at the moment.
the new ones look just fine
Dear satan I wish for this or maybe some of this....oh and I'm a medium or a large.

the 2008 were still ugly, which are you talking about?
these?
edit: i don't like the european sedan either, the wagon and the hatch are nicelooking.
the new new one
That ain't no hatch, what u talkin bout
Dear satan I wish for this or maybe some of this....oh and I'm a medium or a large.
there we go
at least, that's what is on Ford's website
dont be obtuse that is clearly a sedan. i said the hatch and wagon look good. that one doesn't.
Dear satan I wish for this or maybe some of this....oh and I'm a medium or a large.
whatever gave you that idea?
they guy who asked about them was explicitly talking about wagons
edit: haha oh shit you were talking about hatchbacks
How utilitarian they actually are I have no idea because I have only ever seen them in the city.
