I have such a backlog that even if whoever was my secret steam santa had gotten me anything, I probably still wouldn't have gotten around to it anyway.
And I feel kinda bad about getting stuff from cool guys like ultimakay and vsove that I still haven't installed
Just catching up on this thread and I'm in the exact same place. I got gifted a lot of games as a side effect of me gifting a lot of games and I still haven't touched quite a few of them. Part of it is minecraft though, running a server is eating up my spare time. The nice thing though is that having that backlog has done a really good job of saving me money since i'm not buying new games.

Sorry but uh, what happened with Steam? I don't really use Steam all that often as I tend to stick with MMOs for months at a time but...
Far Cry 2: $20
Dragon Age Origins: $30
Dragon Age Awakening: $30
Assassins Creed 1: $20
Is it just me, or was it a fantasy to expect some of these for cheaper?
You are being crazy.
Those are fine prices for all of those things unless some huge sale is going on.
Except Assassins Creed 1 and far cry 2 I guess. Those kind of sucked and I would never pay that much for them.
edit: I already paid $60 for far cry 2 though.
That was awful
I remember the Far Cry 2 panel at PAX08 (Or was it 09? Fuck I dunno)
The most exciting thing was the ability to set anything and everything on fire.
That's why I got Far Cry 2. And I liked the first half of Far Cry 1. Then Far Cry 2 just really sucked. A lot. You could set things on fire but the whole enemies respawning at checkpoints thing and the way enemies took damage was awful and I just hated all of it.
So apparently this potato pack is also a huge ARG for valve. It streams multiple games and what not. Check it out.

I really like a few things about far cry 2
if it didn't have a lot of the actual game in it and just let me go around exterminating roving gangs of evil mercenaries that oppressed the local villages, setting wildfires as traps to lure them into ambushes at my leisure, I would have loved it
Ugh Wren why'd you have to mention Divinity 2? Now I've looked it up and am highly interested but dang there are bills to pay and all these other steam games I've bought on sale but tax return money...
I should just wait for it to inevitably go on sale.

There is no place to complain about the ending to mafia 2 so this will do
I was looking at Rift. I miss Shadowbane. That was a great MMO. No teams, just an endless free for all that saw groups forming out of a need to survive, and level-appropriate hold-points coming up to farm experience gold and gear. Then the end-game was the big dungeon crawls or fuck it let's find that guild that was fucking with us through our whole level-up process and burn their city to the ground in siege mode.
God I had a lot of fun in that game.

Alright so, can anyone explain basic networking to me? How is it I can get a 1.3 mb/s download rate from steam but have a general ping of 600 ms?

Basically, the download speed is how quickly Steam can shove data through to you, and is entirely dependent on their upload speed and your download speed.
Ping is how long it takes your computer to send a message to a server and get a response. Your upload and download speeds, and the server's both come into play here (and upload speed on home internet is often much slower). The amount of data sent for the ping is incredibly small though. How far the packet needs to travel has a more impact than your up/down speeds.

Wonder if it's gotten any less laggy and stuff.
its $40 off (to $70) at an online store already here

If you're actually looking for dragon age origins / awakening, the Ultimate Edition is like $40 and is both of those bundled together
Check it out.

but noooo, they had to give me fucking malaria
taking out their convoys was fun though

I did not like it
God I had a lot of fun in that game.
Well this explains why the games in the potato pack that I have are updating.
But still, what is going on here Valve?
I want to play Brink
but Brink doesn't come out for two months
dilemma
It won't help it come out any faster, but it will make me antsy too
Misery loves company, right?
Also I just beat HL2 for the first time and it was fun, don't know why I didn't sooner.
feel free to begin cutting whales
Oh wow thats awesome and makes me want to play brink even more.
