Does anyone else here seasonally get into/out of 40k?
Every winter I get a total hardon for plastic minis and bust out my legions of unpainted guard. I paint them, get too shy to go to the local GW, and then put them away once the weather gets nice. Must be because I'm so outdoorsy...:P
Nobody has trouble staying in this hobby, seasonally or otherwise? It seems like I get discouraged not just by lack of local players, but also by rule changes/price hikes/target demographics that seem to get further away from me every day...
Inspire me, Arcadians.
Even GW games are pretty econimical compared to, say, video games.
My interest wanes when another space marine army comes along. Don't get me wrong, I know Space Wolves and Blood Angels are Grey Knights and all suitably different, but they are all ultimately power armour armies, and I'd really rather see more Xenos stuff.
I'm far more interested in seeing Tau and Necrons being re-done, the Dark Eldar range being finished off, and work being started on Eldar.
Yes I know there is some hypocrisy there considering what I've said about marine armies, but Eldar used to be the 3rd most popular army back in the day, the codex is showing it's age now with the Dark Eldar codex, and I'd rather we didn't have these speed bump marine books every other codex release.

I would KILL for plasitc aspect warriors O the poses I could do with them instead of the static postures they are in right now
I to await the necron codex and tau. The Necron to see if they are worth playing again and what fun I could have to the Tau can I build a rather annoying jump pack army with heavy/assualt weapons?
I benched my eldar army because I just grew bored with playing them a few years earlier I won a Black Templar army in the Armgeddon war summer they had.
So I started on them and continued. The problem is I see a lot of neat stuff people have done for thier army or some of the art has made we want to start a new army. SO when Deathwatch came out I could paint some of the spare test marines as colour test for some of the chapters I made up
There are so many things people say that annoy me:
"turrent" turret
Any version of Catachan other than "kat-a-chan"
Ciaphas Cain (i've always assumed it's pronounced "syfas kayne")
Aquila (pronounced "akwila" officially) some people cannot stress the syllables correctly and it annoys me
Njal stormcaller is not "nigel the stormcaller"
The following people are amazing and I love them: Wildcat, Timspork, Kias, Denada, susan, Sharp101, [GHSC]Ryctor, Matev, Matrias, ItBurns, Slapnuts, Dayspring, see317, and the unknown poster that sent me a box of Death Company! If you get them as Santees you should buy them amazing things!
I'm also not convinced that the Rune Priest isn't supposed to be called Nigel. He is from a profoundly more silly age in GW history isn't he, being in the very end of 1st/beginning of 2nd ed.

I didn't even know people said Njal as Nigel. Is that real? Around here all the Wolf placers call him Nuh-Jal and pronounce Bjorn as Buh-Jorn, lol. Not even worth correcting no mo'
Gabriel, if you've got a close group of friends, would you guys be willing to host a semi-noob if I made the drive up there? I say semi because I haven't really played since 3rd edition.

I knew someone who was a huge military nut. He used to say and type turrent. It annoyed the shit out of me.
Also, one of my friends who used to be huge into Imperial Guard used to call Catachans 'cat-chuns'. I couldn't figure out why he thought the second 'a' was silent or why the last 'a' was a 'u'.
I would KILL for plasitc aspect warriors O the poses I could do with them instead of the static postures they are in right now
I don't think plastic Aspect warriors will happen, mainly just from how many there are. It's a lot of money setting up a proper plastic mold, and needing to set up 4-5 new plastic molds would be very expensive.
I know pronounce somethings wrong at least till I hear the word. I have a tendency to pronounce things in a Japanese like sound from about gods now 8 years of studying the language. So like Catachan are ka-ta-chan. Tyranids though I pronounce Tyre(like the city) a-nid. But if I have never head a used pronounced correctly, especially made up words it usually comes out wrong anyways.
Also anyone have a game they played recently just roll around in their head on how they could of won? The game I played verse grey knights has been running in my head over and over. I think I have picked out all my mistakes. But it keeps bugging me. Especially since some where just newbie mistakes. Also completely underestimating the close combat power of grey knights. They are a lot scarier to me than assault termies now.
Well, in about 9 hours the car is arriving to take me and my gf to the airport, where we shall commence our move to Japan for the next 6-12 months!
It has nothing to do with 40k other than the fact I packed my Dark Eldar.
I don't actually. What I do have is a game store that has a great group of regulars that covers a wide variety of experience levels, who play a variety of games, so we have people playing 40k, FB, bringing in Space Hulk, or Bloodbowl, I'm starting to drum up interest in Epic. When I went there the first time, I just walked in and said to Dave (the GW staffer) "X in White Marsh told me this would be a good place to check out for specialist games. What's the scene like here?" And I learned what the scene was like and I talked to the people hanging around, and it was all good.
I'm going to try and be there tomorrow sometime after 3, if work doesn't tie me up. Sunday afternoon if it does. I'll be the guy with the leather jacket, beard, and a brown fedora (although everyone calls it a cowboy hat). I'll be hard to miss, I'm the guy that'll you swear you've already met somewhere before.
Hey, has anybody tried making a liquifier spam DE list yet? I was thinking something like 4-6 wrack squads in raiders, maybe haemonculi with grotesque squads, and than 3 ravagers/whatever heavy support anti tank you prefer.
Think it would work? I was thinking the sheer amount of liquifier shots should be able to deal with heavily armored infantry... I'd have to price this out. Well, 1 of the wrack squads would be 180, w/ two liq guns, no acothyst, and no ups on the raider. so 4 of those squads would be 720, the haemonculi would be about 150 together, 3 ravagers w/ flickerfields is 345, I really have no idea on the grotesques... Say about 200 a squad? Which would leave about 230 left over for whatever you wanted. Maybe two warrior w/ blaster squads?
Seems like it could be pretty effective. What do you guys think?
Also, do you think the new DE units are gonna be wracks?

Ah, Epic. I had a huge Epic group going about 6-7 years ago with my friends. I distinctly remember a couple ~20k point games that took way too much time and nearly ruined some friendships .
Alas, I won't be in town this weekend. Maybe I'll sack up and hit a local battle bunker (I think there's one in Glen Burnie) because lately my friends have been too lazy/antisocial to do anything fun.

I wish they'd retry Epic, but at 15mm. 6mm is good for humungous games, but doesn't leave much to paint.

also cavalry, I almost slit my own throat last week when a fantasy ham kept saying calvary

Also, Ciaphas is apparently pronounced with a hard C. Assonant with Cain. I don't quite understand why, though.

It is.

Also, a few times when he's been addressed familiarly, it's been shortened to 'Cai.'

See you guys on the other side~!
'Fraid I beat you to it.
Also Seeker missiles ignore cover, which isn't too bad. Massive effect against Tau and Eldar (or do spirit stones still have 2D6 pick the lowest?)
Also gives me hope for a Tyranid 1.1 FAQ.

GW closed that one back in November. They're opening a new one a bit further south sometime this summer.
Yes, but that's not how the character's name in pronounced
