I'd like more of a chance to really mess around with and learn osx outside work and the mac mini is the cheapest legal option, but it's still too costly for what isn't a necessity.
Well, hackintoshes aren't illegal, you just need a valid OSX licence.
And now that mac guts are pretty much the same as wintel guts, it's not that much of a headache setting one up.
But probably still more time than most people want to invest, and it makes updating/changing hardware more of a pain than it should be.
Galcon Labs is good risk-ish game. Helsing's Fire is a fun puzzle game using light as a gameplay mechanic, Game Dev Story is a business sim/RPG where you create a new game company and develop new games and hire/level up staff members.
Oh and if you've got an iPad download Planetary and throw a bunch of music onto your iPad. I turns your music collection into a galaxy, each artist is a star, each planet an album, each moon a track. Really cool way to visualize your music collection.
Oh and if you have an android or iOS device get Square
get. square.
The Yum Yum Truck (sells cupcakes in Orlando) was using a Square reader on their iPad to ring me up the other day, and I was like, 'Hey, Square, I've got one of those!' and both guys immediately jumped up and were like, 'Ooh, really? What for? Isn't it awesome?'
Really, the best thing Apple has ever made was OSX.
I am not at all a fan of the iDevices in any form, the ability to tinker with the guts of my devices and machines is pretty important to me. That Apple seems to be pushing increasingly for iOS on its new products rather than OSX is kinda killing future Apple products for me.
I agree with this a lot, but OS X will never go completely away. It will always be there for the power users.
With any luck, by the time Apple has totally forsaken OS X, Linux will actually be useable or something.

For photo editting, there's Adobe's photo editor which is pretty solid.
