Is it weird I find that red pony more 'beautiful' than Rarity? Am I allowed to say that?
It gave me the vibe whereas Rarity is like a model, always prettying herself up to look good, that pink pony was an average pony, who prettied herself up for the gala.
Artwise that Rarity looks terrible so maybe it's that

Oh. My. FUCK. Only just noticed in Feeling Pinkie Keen - Fluttershy says "A hop, skip, JUMP!" again, like she was told to do by Pinkie in Dragonshy. :O

Yeah, if you look up the show on TV Tropes (the page is, BTW, fucking massive now) they have a decent sized list of continuity nods. It's pretty neat.
I immediately wondered if that comic was quoting Sabrina Online. Then I checked and found it wasn't quite. But, considering the artist, I'm not sure if it's referencing it.
Love it. But Rarity totally should be Legolas. And Pinkie should be Boromir. Sweetie Belle should be Sam, Scootaloo should be Merry, and Twist could fill in for Pippin. Trixie has to be Saruman.

Yeah, I was thinking of the whole red-eye thing, right down to naming the exact medical condition. I don't know how common that is in comics, and I'd only seen one other example.

Rarity is the prettiest girl in high-school. She's a big fish in a small pond in Ponyville. Canterlot is a different story, however and things don't come quite as easily for her there.
Also the "random pony at the Gala" comic. It's Moondancer, the pony Spike bought the teddy bear for in the first episode. Her appearance looks to be inspired by G1 Baby Moondancer:
Awesome pony, I think she was the first or second baby pony I got as a kid.
I imagine that everything being designed for ponies would get pretty distracting. Human objects get ignored until after the episode when your brain goes "Wait a minute..."
Sometimes you get shit like the pony train, which I think either Faust or another writer objected to.
