I'm going to try and get a sort of "PAXsassins station" set up with my laser printer and old computer or something. I just need to find some way to do it.

I'm seeing a rather major issue with participating in both the FFA and the Ring games at the same time if there are no counterattacks. As an example:
Player A and Player B are both in both games. Player B's target in the Ring game is Player A. Player A shoots Player B, and then goes to collect his (FFA) kill. Player B, who has been killed in the FFA game, but not the Ring game (because no counterattacks are allowed), then shoots Player A in the face to get his Ring game kill.
Perhaps I'm not clear on what "No Counterkilling" means, but perhaps getting hit at all should prevent the attacker from trying to assassinate the target for a certain amount of time. Perhaps, once they're thwarted, they won't be allowed to make an attack for one hour or the event their target was at is over.

if you are using forum search using the word "Assassin" or "assassins" referring to the assassins game played at PAX, this is the correct thread.
If you are just reading the thread as normal, however, please disregard this message. Or else I will kick you in the dick.
Oh shit, you should've been able to. Unfortunately, you can't just yet, as it's...
*makes the "index finger and thumb about 5mm from each other" hand sign*
...that close to being ready, but isn't yet.
On the upside, it's really, really fucking awesome. Totally web-based, mostly automated, utterly nifty. Here's a couple of screenshots of what we've got so far:
The welcome page
The Killboard
The admin interface. Note that all our entries are temporary, and when we get to the final game, this will all be erased and replaced with real info/pictures. The game was running when this pic was taken, so the option to revert is visible in the upper-left corner.
Registration part 1 (after putting in your requested username and password, which can be checked for availability).
I've just uploaded a Mugshot, and am now uploading a ninja pic.
The admin approving my submission (note that the pictures are reversed, because I closed the page after my first batch of shots and started the process over. If you submit pictures like I submitted, your application to play will be rejected.
The kill-logging interface. This is where you upload the ID code from your target's watch to receive your next target's dossier.
I should have more info about a regdate soon.

Not at all. The date has slipped with all the urgency of a man in bowling shoes on an oil-greased skating rink. The site is all but complete, and I've been working on a new design for the watch - something that can be printed in black and white.

Okay, PAXsassins has firmed up a bit. The site will launch on the 4th of August (next Tuesday) for registration. The reason I haven't yet opened registration is because there were some bugs with the website that had to be worked out beforehand. In the meantime, players should prepare:
-1 photo of their face. This photo must be clear, head-on, and at least 640x480. Photos not meeting these criteria to my satisfaction will be refused. Last year I ended up with loads of shitty webcam and phonecam pics. Don't do this, as they will be refused. Use a real camera, or borrow one from a friend.
-1 ninja pic. Pick a tee shirt, fold it around you head like so, strike a badass, scary pose of some sort, and snap a picture. This will be your publicly displayed picture for the website.
Make with the pic-taking!
Next: The process.
Due to the lack of widespread web access on-site at PAX, I am adding a phone option for reporting kills.
You can still use the website if such things are easy for you, but if you can't get to a web terminal to report your kill/get a new target, give me a phone call at (541)-556-6448 with your defeated enemy's watch code. I'll report your kill for you then meet you outside the door of the BYOC room with your next target's dossier.
If you made your kill in the dead of night and can't get to a web terminal anywhere, leave a message on my phone and I'll have your next assignment ready in the morning. Keep in mind that the phone method is slower and clunkier than web method, and results in more time where you are being hunted, but aren't able to hunt anyone. Thus, you should try to find a web terminal before ringing me.
Anyhow, sharpen those swords!

Things are coming together even more! I did the final content drop, and we ran a simulation game early this morning to find bugs. I also received a small package containing 48 small yet very dangerous items, whose purpose shall for now remain a mystery.
So, I guess you want the big news.
The big news is this:
PAXsassins Registration will open tomorrow at 12:00PM (noon) Pacific Time.
When that happens, I will post a link to the registration web-page. Game registration will be limited to the first 20 valid entrants (that is, with both a ninja pic and a good portrait). Participant numbers are limited so we'll have some chance of getting a Master Ninja. All others will be able to register, but will receive a rejection email later on.
IMPORTANT PICTURE STUFF THAT I'M WRITING IN ALL CAPS BECAUSE I CAN. ALSO BECAUSE IT'S IMPORTANT AND STUFF.
I have relaxed the picture requirements a bit, in one very specific way.
-If you have image-editing software, please please please crop your real photo so it shows just your face, and is 300px wide by however tall it has to be to get your whole face.
I have also imposed a maximum size of 800x600 for photos. If yours is bigger than that, we probably won't be able to see your face properly. I can't think of a photo suite in the world that can't do at least this, even the free, shitty ones that come with digicams.
So, in short, crop it to your face, 300px wide, if you can. Otherwise, scale it to 800x600. Either way, it must be a JPG.
REMEMBER: NO PICTURES, FAKE PICTURES, OR A PICTURE THAT IS NOT BIG ENOUGH OR GOOD ENOUGH = REJECTION.
By fake pictures, I mean pictures off GIS, or pictures that are not you. We will be meeting in person so I can call roll and give out watches (details in the rules to be posted tomorrow), so if the pic is not you, I'll know, and you won't play.
See you tomorrow!

I have given you all the courtesy of an email, because I hadn't posted about it yet, but know this:
I will purge the list at 11:59 AM PST, and start from scratch, so all who apply before the official start time will be removed. You may re-apply at the correct time.

You might want to change the way the mugshot is displayed during the registration process. On the page after you upload, when it asks for your ninja pic, you're squishing the mugshot into a set size, making it look distorted. Scared me for a sec, since I thought I'd uploaded a bad pic. Also, sorry for the early reg.
Hey, I participated last year, and am looking forward to again this year. I got the same 500 error that jdarksun did. Could I perhaps get your email and send you my pictures and info that way?
I just registered with userid "djbreslin". (I'm not very creative.)
I played last year... made one sweet kill using an escalator... and then found out my target lost his target sheet. I was stranded with no follow-on target. Looking forward to the more robust gameplay this year (if I'm accepted).

That is where the signup is, and where the game will be played.
Remember to read the rules, as they, and the game mechanics, have changed significantly since '05's version.
The current Master Ninjas are Jrunder and Gray Matter, who are guaranteed spots (if they want them) beyond the 20 new players I'm allowing.
So go! Sign up! Submit your pictures! Read the rules! Enjoy!
See you all at PAX.
P.S. Victor: You were rejected for applying before I posted (even if only by a few seconds) Reapply!

Eh, I already had three email accounts from three different places (father's office, university, hotmail)... didn't see the need to have another.
