Karl, how much are you looking to spend, and for what year and size? For reference, I found Lo a practically-new entry-level 15" 2010 MBP (after the first set of 2011 ones with THUNDERBOLT had been released) for $960. Took about two-to-three weeks of searching to find a deal I was happy with.

And boy is the difference between 7 and 10 huge.
I have both and they are good for different things at different times. The Nexus 7 is far easier to just hold in one hand and browse a bit or watch a video on the go, but the 10" screen has so much more real estate.
If you want the 10", get the iPad or wait to see if the Surface is any good
The new fire has iPad like resolution and I know it runs a bit faster too.
I am looking at the specs on the kindle fire HD and the nexus 7 and they look to be about the same? Same resolution, same ppi. So they both have a really good screen, still not as good as the retina display on an iPad though.
And the Kindle Fire HD has a 1.2 GHz dual core vs the 1.3 quad core in the Nexus 7?
Not to mention the fact that the Kindle Fire is running a gimped version of Android. Where the Nexus 7 has stock Jellybean on it, which is a really good OS
I mean it looks like a decent tablet. The original fire was just completely blown out of the water by the Nexus 7, while this one is just kind of edged out, depending on your preferences.
This dealy has a broken SuperDrive. I'm thinking about (if I buy it) mounting a Crucial M4 SSD in the optical bay and upping the RAM to 8GB. So that's ~$150 for a new battery, $100ish for the SSD, and $70ish for 3GB RAM.
We went to Best Buy to see if they had a Samsung Note 10.1 on display and they did.
Sier played around with the stylus and near instantly figured out how to use Photoshop Touch. She really liked how the stylus responded and likes the idea of having one for web browsing and sketching while on trips.

How easy/hard is it to use it to take handwritten notes on, and did you guys try that
I have seen it in several other forums and nobody even knows what the cause of the problem could possibly be.
Disabling the router/reanabling it, disconnecting from the network/reconnecting, and rebooting all seem to work for anywhere from a couple of seconds to a couple of hours, and it is a tossup as to whether or not it works at all
Unfortunately I'm probably not the best judge of Mac hardware since up until my new MBA I didn't own any, just iOS devices. The stats look pretty decent, though, and your plan to swap out the components is pretty sound. My MBA screams with the SSD in it, so that's a good place to start.

Now I am downloading stuff from steam at 15kb/s
seriously what the fuck is going on and why can't I have a working computer

okay... so.. everything seems to be working fine for now.
So, likely that an update just screwed everything up?
Maybe the old Windows 7 had never had problems because I had not updated it in so long, and whatever windows update I downloaded just completely boned my wireless card?

Got my hopes up but nope. Restoring did not fix it at this point I may just to buy a wifi dongle and pray it works even though I have indications that it probably isn't hardware

She tried it and it seemed pretty easy, at least doing it in Photoshop. That might translate pretty well to take notes.

They're opening a Microsoft Store in the mall I used to work at. That's kind of neat.

Now the question is iPad, Samsung, or ASUS?

iPad is best in 10"
I mean I like Android plenty, but the newer iPads are pretty great, and I have not heard many good things about the 10" android tablets
I'm probably going to buy a second generation surface.
I don't think I could justify buying two tablets in one year.
Satans..... hints.....
I do love me a built in stylus, and I've heard that these things actually have decent pressure sensitivity, so that is cool.
The screen on the new iPad is unbeatable though
The new fire has iPad like resolution and I know it runs a bit faster too.

$50 for a 10"x6.25" drawing area
it's pretty nice
maybe I'll get back into drawing
I really hope it was just a hiccup and not going to be a thing because I was pretty sure I had fixed it thanks to Tef's rad advice

No other device on my network has any problems.
Why don't you restore your PC before you installed the updates? Windows always makes a restore point before it updates exactly for this reason
