I could totally say the exact same thing. Seeing Mars Volta when they toured with System of a Down was my introduction to them, and it was the last time I ever bothered to listen to them.
As for Chili Peppers, their music nowadays can range from "ok" to "pretty good," but their 80's and 90's shit is still ace.
